sumoftwosins
Basically I needed to make a post. Haven't in a while... so here it is. I finished my texture and model work for the "big" new feature for MERC - 2. As you can see... it is an ICBM. For those who have played the mod, there was a silo door near the base. Well this is what is in it. The cell/room will be similar to the Fort Banister base (Talon Company). The only difference is this model will be in there. The "arms" are shown in the launch position. Until it is fired, they will be holding the missile. Now it is time to get the thing to nuke a small area of the FO3 world. For the record Solus Ipse is Latin for "I Alone". http://www.astraybullet.com/_web/icbm_solusipse.jpg

Phoynix
If your post wasnt for the intention of people offering suggestions goto the second part. this is so gonna get me abused, but the red is toooooo red, the paint would have faded to a very dull, perhaps even black or some paints even go whiteish pink.I can also see the texture seam, it really pisses me off(I have so much trouble in my models with texture seams)There are some tile making programs out there that can help stop seams showing. Also shouldnt the paint be peeling rather then just dirt over the top?Dont forget to add smoothing so you cant see the indervidual faces, you used a hell of alot too? 32-40 devisions? Thats damn cool, I really really love the rusted metal texture on the arms too.

BadPenney
I think that your missile looks great as is. this is so gonna get me abused, but the red is toooooo red, the paint would have faded to a very dull, perhaps even black or some paints even go whiteish pink. No abuse intended, but I don't know where your data comes from. Regarde, s'il vous plait: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/imageshare/images/1103832-1243176727.jpg That is a 2000+ year old mural from Pompeii. The red still looks quite vibrant, I think. sumoftwosins' missile would have been in a silo protected from the elements for the most part, and I think paint formulas have become more durable since the days of the Roman Empire. sumoftwosins
I did some work on the texture. I had to add some decals to it anyhow. So that is a new render with an alternate shot. Smoothing makes the faces worse. You only see it from certain views in the render. As Skree knows, I just started playing with Max a couple of months ago. So it might be a rendering option. I have yet to figure out how people make those beautiful scenes where the metal is shiny and poo like that. I make my models in my CAD program. Export them to STL, bring them into max, Unwrap them, texture them, move on to the next. As for the seams hitting. I tried hard to avoid that. There was only 1 location on their that did that, which was visible in the first render on the cone/tip. Some of the rust... I took care of that. As for the red paint. Most red bright colored paint will get darker with oxidation on metal. I'm not trying to get to perfect since most ICMB's actually don't have jack poo on them and their usually all one color. Plus this thing is fairly massive in the game. You won't really have a way to just look at all of it. You will have a circular stairwell. Then when it is launched, you'll see the whole thing. But with it flying off, you won't be able to notice the seams and things ;-) Here is a 500x500 of the texture. You can see how it was unwrapped. http://www.astraybullet.com/_web/icbm_small.jpg

sumoftwosins
I don't think weight was the issue. You see general purpose types of rockets that have plenty of writing and stuff. Space shuttles and poo are colored up. I guess with the ultimate purpose of vaporizing, no need for anything fancy. At least for me, this missile is going to be a big part of the mod. So I want people to see something and say "Hell Yeah!".
