Hateful_kat
I'm not that hyped for Wolfenstein. In my opinion, the market is saturated with WW2 themed shooters and I really got sick of fighting Nazis, even paranormal ones. This game won't be special. You, my friend, have not played Wolfenstein 3D, have you? One of the reasons why I anticipate Wolfenstein is because I get a pang of nostalgia whenever I remember Wolf 3D. Ah, those were the days. A next-gen revamp sounds great. I have played it, my friend, but I gave up my nostalgia googles long ago, and don't view it in a bright white light. And when a while later Doom I came out, I forgot about Wolfie entirely. That's too bad. What's so interesting about Wolf 3D is it's devoted modding community. Mods are still being made to this date. Although Doom was terrific. I remember buying it when I was 14, back in 1994. It really changed the way I looked at games. Doom 3 was a bit off, didn't really capture that "Doom" feeling from the previous games. Hopefully Doom 4 will be better.

I loved Doom 3, it was the first co-op game I played with a friend that wasn't split screen. Me and my little brother played it. I remember when we first started playing it I was hooked up to my TV in my room and he was downstairs. We talked through the game mics and it was a little off not being able to look down at his screen to see where he was at. I remember our conversations went like this "Hey Devin you there?" "Yeah Van I'm here right behind you." *gargled scream* "What's going on Devin?" "Imp...an imp jumped out at me. I need to go to the bathroom." Ah those were fun days. I hope we can do that with Doom 4 too.
jojo man
I've played them all and seen the "Movie" (which was OK but more Hollywood than DooM) Based on the gameplay of the last DooM game, I'd prefer a Wolfenstein game. The whole cheap-trick of magically stick a demon behind me was WAY overdone and made for rather tedious gameplay. A straight-up war against a foe would be much more fun than cheap scare-me tactic which do not work when it is the primary focus of the whole game. LHammonds This exactly. I <3 to roll through Return to Castle Wolfenstein from time to time, but have no compulsion to do the same with Doom3. The fact that in Doom3 you never tangled with more than like 2 enemies at a time was a serious fun-killer for me too.

For instance the maggots always attacked in groups of 3-4, the spiders always swarmed you, and your first encounter with wraiths. Although these encounters were few and far between. There were several times later in the game that you would often find roomfuls of hostiles though. They might not have all been onscreen at the same time but there would be tons of them. I was a little dissapointed in the bosses though. The only one I thought was fun was the cube guardian. It was also kinda stupid how they removed certain guns from the multiplayer game. No BFG WTF? jaosals42
Personally, I think Wolfenstein will be cooler, though it's kind of hard to compare a game with several details out already, to one that has few (Wolfenstein to Doom 4). Doom 3 was good, but a bit too lonely even when it shouldn't have been. It really wasn't as scary either as people made it out to be.

My Doom3 experience is based off of the Xbox version. It could be that the number of active enemies was lowered to compensate for the Boxs' lesser hardware capabilities. Not played much of the pc version, so as for what its like I couldn't say. In the Xbox version, the only types of enemies that you saw large numbers of were the floating, flaming skulls(I forget the name at the moment). The enemies would spawn 1-2(usually 3-4 with the insanely weak enemies) at at time and a new one would spawn to replace a dead one. That would happen a few times util they just stopped showing up. It wasn't really fighting multiple enemies at once, it was fighting multiple enemies in rapid succession(laughably weak enemies too, so they would only have been more than a joke if there were a dozen of them crawling all over you at the same time). Deepblue686
The enemy count in Doom4 is pretty low anyway. This is because it doesn't play like the older games before it. It plays more like a survival horror in 1st person, so dumping insane ammounts of enemies on you would decrease the fear aspect of the game. There aren't many enemies for a reason.
