Fallout 3 Alternative Soundtrack

NOTE: I've got nothing to do with this project. I just found it on another site.

Recently, a big music replacer for Fallout 3 came out. Here's the post at NMA:

Hurray!

Hey, we're the guys who sought composers for an alternative soundtrack earlier this year. So, after seven long months, we're finally finished with the project and the soundtrack is complete.

It is a music mod for Fallout 3 that replaces ambient and GNR music as well as few music effects in the game. Featuring music from 14 different artists, which of some are members of NMA. If you want your Fallout 3 to sound more hostile and post-apocalyptic, this is the mod to grab.

Artists in alphabetical order:

Ceekayed - project leadership

Claymore - project administration

Crazy Man

Din (feat. Clones)

MDP

Nebular Spool

Overcoat

Public

Soem Aeld

Sunsquid

TiLT

Trompkins

Yasahi

Note that it's pretty huge at 600 MBs. Also it replaces all the vanilla Fallout music, although it lets you back it up first. However, I just finished downloading it, and it's great! It adds a great deal of atmosphere to the game. It sounds a lot more post-apocalyptic in nature than the original. Therefore, I highly recommend this mod.

Also, it's possible to add this music to the vanilla instead of replacing it. Just have it install in a place other than in your Fallout 3 directory, change the names of the music files, and then add them to your game. Note that I'm fairly sure this only works with the Music folder. If you do this with the Sound folder, I don't think the new songs for those situations will play.

EDIT: It says that the GNR files are replaced, but I don't see any new GNR files in the folder, so I don't think that's correct.

very neat!

ive been sitting on the fence wondering if i should release my music addon, not really a replacer, it adds several hundred new tracks and weighs over 1gb. (Note, each track was painstakingly selected for its appropriate-ness in the fallout3 universe, no lyrics, nothing annoying, just hardcore wasteland nostalgia feeling. Pulled tracks from tons of games and movies like Silent Hill, Tombraider, 28 days/weeks later, Assassins Creed, Guildwars, planetside, changing lanes, Dune, Riddick, The condemned, Gladiator, neverwinter nights, fallout 1&2, Jarhead, Darkness, Half life series, diablo, gears of war, etc etc...

but its 1gb+ lol... 7zip for the win methinks...

when i pick music to add into it, i add it in, then play through the game and when i hear the track i make note of it, listening to see if it blends into the game as the oldschool fallout tracks do. if its overly annoying or not fitting, i either edit the track/filter it with mp3 editor, or cut it out. Ive done alot of cuts, i dont want any crappy music in there making a fool out of itself...

anyways, id be keen to hear these guys you linked and maybe incorporate some of their stuff in my own lol

since my music pack would break every music IP copyright known to man im sure it would be prohibited from nexus hehe, but if people are keen i might post it somewhere online or torrent it... on that note, anyone else notice how funny it is that, you CANT find half of such music anywhere for sale, yet you can still get in trouble for sharing it?

how is it cutting into profits of the original artist, if the works are not available for sale? lmao... im an artist myself so i can understand artists wanting credit/compensation, but where do you find some of the rarer soundtracks these days? Im sure you can seek them out on specialty sites that have like 1 copy left and mark it up to 100 bucks due to its rarity... but still, does the artist see anything from that sale anyways?

giving credit to music artists for their contributions seems credit enough, when you are unable to find the music anywhere else...

note: not trying to condone music theft ie. ripping commercial cds that are readily available and distributing that, im talking the rarities that are not produced anymore and are in either very limited quantity or unavailable.

Hell, I hope your download isn't broken but those files should be located in the Data/sound/songs/radio/licensed directory. Glad you like it Tyrannus007 :)

Yeah, I don't have that folder. I downloaded from the Filefront link and when I go to the sound folder, I don't see any songs folder, just fx. Ah well, I like the vanilla GNR music anyway, and the rest of the music pack is great. BTW, do you think it would get more attention if it was uploaded to the Nexus?

Unfortunately, upload to Nexus is impossible because of the 300mb file limit. Believe me, this is the 1st place we have tried. I'll try to download the file from filefront and look into the problem.

Edit: The filefront must be the problem. Some other users also reported this problem and it was solved by downloading the rar version from the Cze mirror or exe version from torrent.

Maybe releasing the whole mod on the Nexus would stress the server too much. But here's an idea. How about providing a compilation of just some of the music so the viewers can download it and then know what to expect from the full mod. Then you could have a mirror that would link to the full file download. Just a thought. I could even do it for you if you give me permission.

Anyway, I'll try downloading from a different source and see if the GNR music is included with that.

EDIT: I downloaded from a different source and yes, the GNR music comes with that. Thanks!

Thanks for the sound idea. We'll sort something out.
