New mods making the game buggie

Recommended Posts

Recently got into downloading some of the 'classic' mods here, to make my own copy feel just that tiny bit more 'authentic' to the series -(cats paw-pre war books, 'classic nuka-cola vending machines, classic creature colors)-. Plus a few for just personal touches -(posters/bilboards/puwloski chaimber pin-ups, and the Classic war Propaganda one. 'clear' world map, glowing Nuka-Cola Quantoms, red-cross first aid boxes)-. Now, various floor tiles and safes have texture bugs, where they'll change appearance in relation to how close I move to them, and potentially crashes the game. And alot of the 'clutter' ontop of desks are now just blank, black shapes. This also happens on the wodden sign boards like the ones outside Rivet City, at the rivet city security caravan, with Broken Steel's 'Pura' sidequests.

Are any of those mods known for causing this? Or just something happening from using a certain combination of them? I'll do some troubleshooting myself in the meantime, and see what I turn up. Either way this could help prevent others from having it happen to them. :)

-Edit- Ok, found the culprit already.. The first aid kit ( http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1689 ) does it, all on it's own, nomatter how high or low the graphics settings are, or anything in between.

No, I followed the instructions on them, prefectly. They aren't exactly 'rocket science'. If you'd care to read my edit, I do know how to, and can troubleshoot my own problems (I was tired after a long bit of gaming when i posted. the edit was after some rest, for myself and the comp), And in this case, found the problem mod.

Now, for more constructive posts...?

Textures going glitchy sounds a lot like misinstallation, or videocard drivers going nuts, or badly made mipmaps. Game really shouldn't go nuts like that for just a single dds file. Was there a first aid kit present on all the places where you had the glitch?

Kudos, for the actual helpful post, TGBlank! :D

Not in any of the idediate areas. Inside the Jefferson Memorial, where the Scribes are all standing about, and in the office, and bathroom there. The random floor tiles, and safe all had these, randomly changing, graphical glitches. The cluttered paper on the desk, and the roadblocks were just replaced by blank, black, shapes. It would also happen out in the world, where no first aid kits were in the imediate vicinity, with lettering/signs up on nearby wodden boards (example: the Rivet City security caravan boards) being replaced with blank, black, shapes. (likely to have changed things elsewhere... But, I didn't exactly go around the whole place hunting them all down after seeing this :P lol )

I highly doubt it was a graphics card issue. The system I have it on is still just a few months old, and auto updates every day. And I went through and tried several combinations of the first aid kit's file being included in the override.txt with the others I used, and it only ever poped up when the kit was present, to the point that just the kit on it's own did it. No other combinations, of other files, leaving the first aid kit out, caused this to happen. My Dx should still be as up to date as well, so unlikely. Any known conflicts/bugs/etc. like this with mods, due to Vista?

wait wait wait, override.txt?.

You reeeeeeeeeally should be using no txt for that, and use Archiveinvalidation Invalidated! (get it from nexus). Some ini setting may also be the culprit, did you followed any tweak guide there or toyed with it too much yourself?

As the same area i mean the same cell or group thereof, in other words, immediate walkable (and therefore, rendered) area, up to w/e teleporter doors there are.

Sorry, that was what I meant. The 'Invalidate' .txt that needed to be added into my data folder. Just couldn't remember the name of it when posting. And all the neccesary settings were changed according to the readme files in all of them.

And I figured that was roughly what you meant by area. Still the same answer I gave. It was happening even in areas where no first aid kit was present. Even though, I'm not totaly sure if there is one anywhere near, inside that first area of the J.Memeorial. I haven't had need to look for them in quite some time. If there is, then it means it does this weather one is present or not.

You never said there was a mod by that name. And every readme in those mod files I've used mention exactly that name, and making a .tct for it. So... you'll pardon the 'newbie-ness'.

And looking at the description for that mod helper, it does almost exactly the same thing. Just removes the need to do it manually. "-ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! will set bInvalidateOlderFiles to 1" already done, as all the readmes say to do this as it is. So I did it the 'hard way'. Really doesn't sound any different.

Now, also, after reading the description, I see an answer to a question I asked earlier (which could have simply been pointed out, after I mentioned Vista in my second post, rater than us dragging this out..) That answer being that vista *does* have issues with the mods. And I'm too far into the game now, nor care enough, to move my fallout folder out of program files to 'fix' the error caused by 1 mod I wanted to use only for the sake of convenience. And since that was the only file sofar to give me any problem, I can do without. But, now other people will know this one file, qith vista, may cause them issues.

Actually, i did say:

You reeeeeeeeeally should be using no txt for that, and use Archiveinvalidation Invalidated! (get it from nexus)

The text file is faulty, there are stuff that do not work if put in the text, there are others that do not work if you don't, it's a deprecated method that has been plaguing us since oblivion, and it should not be used.

The issues with vista amount mostly to the stupid UAC hiding stuff when it shouldn't, running everything as administrator or turning off UAC solves this. UAC also makes the game more crash-prone, because fallout hates when a program is sniffing files while it's running.

Re-installing to another location is recommended for most if not all games, luckily for you, if you uninstall, mods and savegames won't be removed, nor will your ini file, so you can install again elsewhere and move your old data folder, if you wish to do so.

There's also a chance that your problem is related to an ini setting not working as intended, or working badly with your hardware, so i'll ask again, did you toyed much with fallout's ini file or followed any tweak guide to do so?.
