So first of all, I hope this board is still active, kind of an old game. Couple questions about the game, although for that price I'd be stupid not to get it (7.99) for ultimate edition.

1) I loved oblivion and skyrim, is this game very similar? Very open world? Lot of side quests?

2) Is a fair comparison of this game like a cross between skyrim and final fantasy? Or how would you describe this game? Gameplay trailers don't say everything

3) Is this the go to site for all my dragon age needs? I've been told there are couple sites for DA mods.

4) Is there an up to date guide for how to install the mods? I'm pretty clueless/helpless with this sort of things. Still haven't gotten around to modding oblivion/skyrim

5) Can my computer handle it at decent settings with the popular mods? Running i5 2500k gtx 460 8gb ram on desktop and i7 4700QM gt 750m 8gm ram on lenovo 510p.

6) Anything I need to know about this game before I start playing? Is it for me?

7) Is there a site like uesp.net for dragon age? I loved that site

8 ) There's an expansion and DLC. Are those 9 free regularly?

THanks for any help

1st DA Origins is not an open world is linear but gives more sense of open world and freedom when doing some quest due quest and side quest have some consequences like if you Kotor and Witcher series.

2nd In my opinion DA origins is better with Skyrim but its up to you if you going to try. Skyrim has alot of innovation in graphics than gameplay and removed some old RPG gameplay that you would probability missed and wished they would released some DLC and some mods to fixed this problem compared to Elder Scrolls. For me playing Skyrim is like playing a cheap ass MMO single player game due quest are quest with no value and no consequence unless some quest that affects main quest and DLC. The fantasy of DAO is quite similar w/ LOTR but more bloody and brutal.

3rd This game doesn't really needed an extensive mods compared to other elder scrolls. You just need some cosmetic armor mod and some few adult mods if you want to mod this game.

4th You just need NEXUS mod manager.

5th Yes wth do you expect with 2009 game. Also as i said this game doesn't really need some mods to enjoy this game. It is an improve version of Kotor but w/ no lightsaber and George Lucas Capitalism ahem Mickey Mouse Capitalism.

6th If you want a good ending in my opinion try to pick the human noble but its up to you. There are some multiple endings in the game but for me human noble has a good ending.

If you somehow enjoyed DAO never buy DA2 is it not worth its. For me DA2 is the worst product of Bioware due EA capitalism. EA just started to destroying Bioware's reputation.

I agree with some, and disagree completely with other parts of what xX893kiraXx said above.

DA:O is by far the best CRPG I've ever played. I just finished my 18th (or-so) full playthrough from DA:O, (including TSP, RtO and WK) to DAA, GoA, and WH. (You'll learn about those additional campaigns if you get the Ultimate Edition. )

Between the multiple origins, races, genders, and classes, plus the Party Banter of the NPC companions, and the player choices that carry forward (at least by reference) to later campaigns, it provides more re-playability than any other I've found. The quality of the writing is so much better than, for example, Skyrim's that I became spoiled. After about 100 hours of game-play I didn't bother to finish Skyrim because it was so borrrrrrring...

As for using mods, my first piece of advice is: "Don't use any for your first play-through."

If you're patched to 1.05, there are no game-breaking problems and the vanilla game is excellent own its own.

Then, you'll be in a much better position to determine what kinds of mods you'd like, and to appreciate what they do for your game.

As for which mods to use, see this topic: "Good Mods - Opinions". It's a little out-of-date now, but there have been very few great new mods (except for some fan-created external campaigns) in the past couple of years.

Also take a look at this article: "Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies" to understand the various types of mods (there are several) and the basics of employing each of them. None of the managers, not even the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM), can handle them all correctly. Avoid disappointment when there seems to be a problem by knowing what's going on.

As for DA2, I think most of the hate stems from two specific issues:

1) EA did indeed pressure BioWare to release the game early. Waaaaay too early. It would have needed at least another six-to-nine months of tightening and polishing to meet the expectations of the players who had had such a fantastic experience with DA:O.

2) They should have called it something like. Dragon Age: Champion of Kirkwall, instead of DA2. It is only loosely connected to the first game, and can be viewed as a "sequel" only if you're one of the lead writers who already knows the entire story-arc and where everything fits. For us mere mortals, it was more like "Huh? Where's my Warden?!?" But it's actually a very playable game on its own terms, (if you don't let the re-use of map areas bother you too much.) Unfortunately, it's about 50%-60% of the length of DA:O, at 100% of the price, with less than half the DLC in the end. (Earlier this year BioWare announced that they had halted work on a third major DLC for DA2 to concentrate the team exclusively on DA: Inquisition.)

Speaking of DA:I; based on the fact that BioWare has delayed its release by six-to-nine months, (Q4 2014, instead of Q1 or Q2) we can hope they learned their lesson and that DA:I will be as awesome as DA:O!

Happy Gaming!
