SkyUI or SKSE problems

I had no problems running SkyUI with SKSE until a couple of days ago, it suddenly stopped working and I get the "may need to wait for an update" message in game. I looked at my versions of both, they seem to be current -- is anyone else having this problem?

Hey, guys. I'm a noob to mods. Today I watched all of Gopher's videos for beginners and successfully followed each of his instructions for downloading all the various programs and mods he recommends, but when it comes to SKSE, it's just not working. I used his manual installation tactic first, and all the files were in the fight place and all that. But he said that when it is installed, the game should launch immediately and skip the small splashscreen menu. That doesn't happen. I then hit the ~ key to type in what he calls the "console area." I typed "GetSKSEVersion" exactly as he typed it, and it gave me the "this command isn't recognized" message, or something along those lines. So I uninstalled SKSE and went to go try again, this time using the new SKSE installer that everyone else seems to have had success with. I run through the installer and it creates a "Skyrim (SKSE)" icon on my Desktop and it puts the SKSE files in Steam>SteamApps>Common>Skyrim, just as it did in the manual installation. And it just had the same effect as Gopher's instructions.

Oh, also, NMM shows that SkyUI is installed.

Is there something else I can do? A file I need to make sure I have first? Anybody's help would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that if you need a log file or something, I don't remember how to do that, but I follow instructions easily.

  • 1 year later...

This is known to occur if you have SkyUI, but forgot to load it through SKSE, and instead just loaded it through the Vanilla launcher.

Disable SkyUI, launch skyrim through SKSE, enable SkyUI and launch SKSE again... this should fix the problem.

If not, make sure to tell me.

this was really helpful, thanks

I keep getting the skui error code 1 skse not running (im using mod organizer). I've redownloaded skse probably 10 times (following gophers videos). redownload skui. it always gives me the error. it gives me the skse version when I use the command. I've run it as an administrator. I'm using the 1.7.2 skse version. Skyrim is the latest version. It has set the code from the beginning. I do not believe any mods that use skse are working either. Game loads fine and all other mods seem to be working. I can even use skui but in the in game mod manager none of my mods show up. Any ideas?

It sounds as if Mod Organizer isn't making the SKSE scripts available to the game. SKSE's scripts need to overwrite the game's default scripts. MO is a powerful mod management utility with many options but if you read the MO documentation about archive management you should be able to get it to load things in the right order.

And make sure Steam is running before you start Mod Organizer.
