Collections versus third party mod packs

Not sure if anyone will read this...but making a quick post for any beginners so they can have a better idea.

In my experience collections are vastly superior to something like wabbajack. Not in the collections themselves entirely, but in their better stability and ease of use with Nexus. Since both suggest premium subscription here, there really is no reason to use something as ill conceived as wabbajack. There are great looking modpacks there if you read the descriptions. But once you try downloading and playing the issues become apparent.

To wrap up, as a total beginner 3 months ago I can honestly say experiencing mods on their own or with suggested builds is immensely better than using something like wabbajack. Not only do you tailor your experience more to your liking, but you learn about mods in general. I spent hours on troubleshooting one mod at start, only to realize I had wrong version of game. The next mod I installed was easier because now I knew I had to match my game version to the right downloads. It was like this with weather mods, combat overhauls, ect. The more I learned about one particular mod or category the more I learned about mods in general.

Wabbajack modpacks do not give this experience and cost even more time when you take into consideration troubleshooting and broken saves.

Plus, with some modpacks you can't really troubleshoot since there are so many small mods involved that you otherwise wouldn't be using in the first place.

***A last point to make along with some appreciation for modders...much of my troubleshooting was facilitated through mod authors and other users themselves. Once I began interacting with the comment sections more I was able to fix issues and run stable, modded lists. Even if by interacting all I did was read all the comments, it was a huge help in getting things to work. You don't get this sort of assistance and feedback with third party mod-packs.

So thanks to the authors and mod users who continuously reply to questions in comments and help people get things up and running. Your replies matter and people like myself are fairly ignorant concerning computers in general so thank-you for your continued patience with us users.

i'm courious how you think about your lines about collections in 6 month or in a year if your modded games got major updates/upgrades (hopefully without involving script extender)... Have fun gaming or fiddling with your game or what is left! i really hope it works out well. my feelings tell me that modding changes and in the end only a few know all the dependencies and how to cope with instabilities - if solvable at all.

I have been modding game since the dark ages. Meaning even before Nexus existed. The memories of Hololabs for KoTOR, the places for Sim 1 mods. The early Oblivion mod pages. Ah, the fun of modding back then without even NMM. I do use some mod packs. Typically weapon packs. Like EVE for Fallout New Vegas. As well as other packs of stuff for Fallout 3 and even 4. I also use some for Skyrim. Because I use Mod Organizer 2, I don't have access to Collections. I can see what are in them from the browser, but a lot of those, are, basically the samething as mod packs. But you make the pack yourself, and use that. Myself, I like a variety of mods. I want things to look good, and still able to play the game. So, I pick and choose my own mods. If they are packs, it's cool. If not, it's also cool. Collections are cool too. The thing about collections, is that they will get updates to things as they roll out. Wabbajack does have it's uses still. And it is a good source for mods that you may not have experienced before. And it is a good place for even veteran modders to go if they want to try something differemt. Just because something, to some people, might be "out of date," doesn't dimish it's usefulness or it's relevency. I wonder if anyone has a collection for getting New Vegas up and running, following a certain youtuber's mod list, and install guide.
