Prototype beats inFamous

Prototype wins - first because they knew the PC market is the market for gaming, and second, more action. inFamous loses due to their disregard for other systems.
Well, if you're talking in terms of sales then, yes. Yes Prototype has the potential to sell more than inFamous.

My opinion, I'm not going to buy a PS3 just so I can play inFamous.
Me too.

Sony's been trying to put out PS3 only releases like MGS4 and Killzone. But it's not enough to draw me as a PC gamer to get a PS3.

Surely a keyboard and mouse setup is definitely the way to go for an FPS.

In the ign review, the reviewer says that some abilities in Prototype uses awkward button combinations. A specific example he gave was the cannonball ability which uses two buttons that are hard to hit on the 360 controller. I'm thinking a keyboard could prevent that problem. So good points for Prototype being available for the PC.

Another plus point for Prototype is the variety of powers. Some of those simply looks like fun.

Based on what I've played of Prototype, it's okay. The graphics are bad-mediocre, and the city itself is composed of poorly textured boxes, but the combat and gameplay is pretty fun. IGN's review is pretty accurate in this case. 7.0 - 8.0. It's disappointing that they didn't take advantage of the PC's capabilities, however. They could've rectified the abysmal draw distance, at least.

From what I've played of Prototype (360) it's a pretty fun game. The control sceme and how you handle moving through the environment is near flawless, one of the best I've seen in game. Attack controls can be odd at time (X and B for certain moves kinda sucks). The combat system is pretty easy and the powers are fun and easy to use. My issue with the game is balancing. Sometimes you can run into really frusterating or annoying situation and some of the fights specifically boss fights don't seem like they were thought all the way through. The "Supreme Hunter" is one of the most annoying bosses in the game. All of his attacks stun, knock you down, or inturrupt you and NONE of your attacks do the same to him or at least none of the attacks I purchased at the time. He also blocks every aerial attack I had at the time which was almost all of them.

I had been focusing on the Blade and Claws powers at the time and my mainstay heavy attack was the ground spikes which while fun and useful they don't synergise well with any of your attacks. Mainly due to the rediculous recovery time. Any enemy with enough health to survive a fully charged groundspike recovers from the attack faster than you can pull your hand out of the ground. To add injury to insult they seem to have enough time to reach you and hit you a few times before you can move. Feeding is another idea not thought all the way through. Late game you must feed constantly during fights with the marines and unless you're in armor form it's pointless to do it in combat. You'll either be knocked out of the animation by a grenade or a rocket which cancels the feed and ends up costing you health. 40% of them seem to have one weapon or the other. You may also get focus fired and lose health equal to what you just gained thus wasting your time. Hijacking tanks has the same rocket knockdown issue as feeding. Helicopter jacking is easy to get away with though. You also can't use your super moves while in Armor form which is stupid as hell. During the end of the game you pretty much need armor or risk getting instagibed during a tank, grenade launcher, or rocket launcher juggle (It sucks getting caught in these out of armor form)

Here's a list of the boss fights (main not mini) and issues with them. WARNING: Contains spoilers.

Boss 1: Specialist Cross

You encounter him the first time you enter a hive through the main story. He's not too difficult and unlike the other 3 bosses he is actually pretty fun. He doesn't spam the same 2 moves over, and over, and over, and over again. He's pretty mobile but can't run along walls like you and the area you fight him gives you the advantage. overall this fight is fun, engaging, and enjoyable. I wish I could say the same for the others.

Boss 2: Supreme Hunter 1st encounter

Let me tell you right away that this boss is a pain in the arse but at least the area you fight him leans towards your favor. You fight him after you crack open the giant hive to rescue your sister. Several of his moves are simillar to yours with one exception. HIS ARE BETTER DESIGNED. Like you he has ground spikes but unlike yours he has less recovery time. every attack he does stuns you, knocks you down, or pins you and he hits hard. With the esception of his "heavy blows" it's impossible to counter attack and no matter what his moves are you cannot interrupt him. He's faster and bigger than you but not as agile IE he can't wall run or glide. Armor form is favorable but not required for this fight. Whip Fist and Claw powers seem to be the most effective during this fight. Blade is good at certain points and lets you get some solid hits in. Overall this fight is annoying and tedious. You'll spend more time recovering health than fighting him.

Boss 3: The Mother

I swear they didn't think this boss all the way through and were only concerned with trying to make an "epic fight". You fight her after you help the millitary deploy the bloodtox pump. The Mother is the size of a city block and all she does is spam 2 attacks and does a near intagib when you get close. Her location work against or for you depending on your playstyle. It worked against mine but then again so did the whole fight (I focused on melee). She is IMPOSSIBLE to melee so don't even try it. you fight her in 2 phases. Phase one it's just you and her... and her minions (your health factories). Her primary attack are these green energy balls that home. They do light damage but they stun you making you drop cars, canceling your attacks, and stopping you from running. You have very little time between each volly. For her other move she sucks in concrete and spits a stream of small concrete chunks at you. This does pretty decent damage depending how long you're in the stream. There's about an 8-10 second window between this attack and 90% of the time it directly follows a green ball volly. If you aren't in armor form and you get hit by around half the volly and the entire stream of rocks you will get instagibed. If you get too close to you she will suck in energy and release a massive shockwave. During this time the game slows down and starts going black and white. If you have any health taken away and get hit you will die. If you aren't in armor form this attack instagibs. She has 3 weak points you have to take down in order to stun her. Once these are down swich to blade and tear her head apart. This starts phase 2. It's the same as phase one but the millitary join in to help you. Take note that they are not friendly and will attack you if you provoke them. They're just more concerned with the 50 foot worm taking up a city block than the 6 foot Alex Mercer. You need to knock her down about 4-5 times during phase 2 and there are NO check points once phase 2 has started. I knocked into the shockwave by a hunter and died when she was around 5% health and had to restart. It took me like an hour and a half to get her to 5% I was furious. Armor is REQUIRED for this fight

Final Boss: Supreme Hunter 2nd encounter

Pretty much the same as last time but the screw you on the location, it's timed, and he has some new moves. He has two of your devastator moves and they suck to get hit by. He has the spike graveyard and the tendril devastators. Graveyard hurts but you wont die but his follow through attack will hurt. Getting hit by the tendrils is a game of luck. Sometimes it might be only a scratch sometimes it might instagib you in armor form. It depends on how many tendrils hit you and for how long and the tendrils hit in random patterns. During this fight you can't out maneuver him and he can out run you so armor is a must. You have some millitary "help" during this fight and by help I mean they are your health factories. When the fight starts hit him with your critical pain devastator then start throwing crap at him. When he's around half HP absorb as many people as you can and try to get and stay at full critical mass. Keep throwing crap at him until he gets stunned then wail on him until the times event start. Once you're timed drop armor form and hit him with as many critical pains as you can. If he's not dead put armor form back on and repeat throwing crap at him until he is. During this time the millitary does not respawn so your health pool is limited. Like I stated before armor is required for this fight.

Overall I give the game a solid 8

  • 2 months later...

There's not much I can say about PROTOTYPE cuz it's pretty self-explanatory and impressive on its own.

But I will anyway.

It's a blood-thirsty quest for Revenge!

And who doesn't love a good Revenge story, right?

My first impression was that it resembles Assassin's Creed in the sense that the main character is a young shaved white guy with a hoodie on... and several blades... climbing buildings, assassinating people, blending in with the crowd and so on... aka "lots of fun" Hehe!

But as I was playing, it looked more and more like a shameless repackaging of Spider Man: Web of Shadows

And in fact - IT IS

ACTIVISION did a great job with both, don't get me wrong, but the overall combat (especially tendrils and hammer-fists corresponding to Spidey's symbiotic-infected Black Suit, and the drop-kicks ;) ), the "flying around town" mode and "every roof is an accessible roof" idea, the AI behavior, picking up cars and throwing them at helicopters and tanks, mission acquisition, side-missions... poo, even the keyboard layout is the same.

But I'm NOT COMPLAINING

Spider Man: WoS is a GREAT game!

And yet for those who think super-heroes are gay :lol!: or just that Marvel DC Comics are for children

Prototype is a grim hard-core underground (also improved) version of what you would get from Peter Parker's red&blue tights persona.

"Improved"? one may ask. YES! I will answer:

* it's not as repetitive

* the character is much cooler (a sort of pissed-off Anakin Skywalker right before he got the Darth Vader suit)

* much MORE GORE (people get sliced and diced similar (yet worse) to Activision's other youngest creations X-Men Origins: Wolverine)

* the story is much darker than our friendly neighbourhood spider's and it unfolds in quite an original manner (we'll talk about consuming targets later on)...

* and the whole city's atmosphere is much more stylized, some environments seem like Hell on Earth, others are like an urban battlefield, others are like a really nice Manhattan zone with just you causing poo like breaking a traffic light down and causing a traffic crash followed by a traffic jam Haha :)

Not to mention graphics! Really satisfying in every other detail you couldn't find in Spidey's world... like blood! Haha!

Instead of web slinging it has sprinting, dashing, jumping really high and (most pleasant and efficient of all) air-gliding.

Wall climbing is similar, though, and button smashing combinations are just as entertaining.

Moving on to The NEW features:

* you can grab any weapons from the ground and shoot the *ban me* outta your competition!

- the artillery revolves around m16's, grenade launchers, missile launchers... and probably more since I haven't finished the game xD

* you can hijack and control several (incredibly fun) vehicles

- APC's (sort of light-weight tanks), Tanks, Hiperbaric Tanks (yeah, alotta Kaboom!) transporters and Helicopters (though I may have missed a few, you get the general idea)

* And then there's the CONSUMING feature of the game.

Basically you can grab any NPC (run a little with it till u hit a nice roof or a hideout, or just follow the next step on the spot) and then you decompose it into blood and goo and merge it in your own body to accomplish one of the following:

1. Steal memories

411 101 - the bits of information you get from someone are connected to a "web of intrigue" layout which connect dot-to-dot the whole plot of the game

1.2. Steal aptitudes

- learning to handle a tank takes around 8 months for tank engineers? minimum? well our boy just needs a tank engineer to consume and Presto! skills have been acquired

1.3. Steal keys and data and clearance stuff to get to places.

2. Assume their identity - you literally morph into your last consumed victim whenever you want

And you do this to:

- gain entrance into secret bases without raising suspicion or risking major alerts, fight alongside soldiers or cops and they're thinking you're one of the guys :cyclops:

- walk around without being conspicuous, without scaring people or targets, without attracting unwanted attention

- lose your pursuers - once you hit a corner or break line of sight you can switch shapes and you're off the hook

Well I think there are much more things to mention about the game

but I bet nobody's gonna read even half of this, so I'll just get straight to my screenshots:

I don't know about inFamous, but i'm not gonna buy a PS3 for it... so Thank You, Activision!
