All mod pages show no content, only the letter 'E'

I've been getting this issue intermittently as well, roughly since the server move to the cloud. Browsers are Chrome (latest) or IE9. As I say, it is intermittent; typically more frequent from midday thru evening (EST timezone). No Javascript blocker in use. Refreshing usually fixes it, but it may take multiple page refreshes; sometimes closing the tab and calling the page again fixes it.

Is this happening on every single page load, Grizzly? So you go to Skyrim Nexus, you click on any/all files and that happens? If so it sounds like something on your PC is blocking the javascript that does that initial AJAX call on the page. I've tested this on Firefox 26.0 with no plugins installed across a range of different and random files on Skyrim Nexus and I can't repeat it, which would suggest it's something between your PC and our servers, and I'm more inclined to think it's client side than server side.

Apologies for the late reply, been busy with other things! ;) It happens on every mod page I visit, regardless of which Nexus game site I'm on. It only happens on the initial load, once the mod page has loaded if I click on any of the other tabs (Files, Images, Posts, etc) and then click on the "Back" button to return to the "Desc" the page will load correctly with the Description. Refreshing the page will also load the page correctly, further testing shows that after refreshing one mod's page the next 1 or 2 mod pages I visit will load correctly but after then it simply returns to failing to load the Description.

It happens on both Firefox 26.0 and IE8 so I doubt it's a browser specific problem. I use Java Standard Edition version 7 Update 45 (build 1.7.0_45-b18) and if I check for any updates I get a message that I'm using the latest version. I try to keep everything else up-to-date as well, so I'm not too sure what could be causing this on my end.

Ah well, if it's not a server side error and is instead something on my PC that's causing this then I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

I see it on occasion myself but usually if I click around on the various tabs a bit the description will eventually load. Seems to happen for me more like the site is just overloaded at the moment and can't properly load the page, usually in conjunction with an error page or two.

I almost always look at more than one mod at a time, the first page may load fine, the second or third may only have an E under any of the tabs and the forth or fifth might just be a "page unable to load" message. In that case I just refresh the page that doesn't load, when it does and I click around on the E page - it will load fine as well. This is why I usually see it as a temporary overloaded site error that's not worth getting upset about and generally ignore it.

It's only an intermittent problem for me one that usually goes away well before I have time to get annoyed with it.

Now it's down altogether.

What browser(s)?

When one exhibits this behaviour, what happens with another?

Not seeing this today with FF26 (or IE11)...

Just wondering about the somewhat specific admin option to add "zzz" to the filename. :)

Anyway, to add to the confusion, I tried it on the Xiaomi browser (default on phones with MIUI) and it loads the screenshots and nothing below that, not even the tabs...

  • 2 years later...

So I have been looking for resolutions to a similar problem I have run into, relating to the "E" showing up and being the only thing displayed in the tabs for any given Nexus mod page.

I don't know if this issue has been resolved or not, but in any case I am posting this for a possible resolution or any others coming here with similar issues.

(my fix is at the bottom ; first I'll detail the issue)

ISSUE:

Here is what was happening to me in a bit more detail: I had the mods I wanted future access to bookmarked and when I accessed them from my bookmarks, the page would load normally with all necessary files under the description appearing without fail. However, when I went change tabs for the mod -- like for the Files tab or Images tab -- it would say it was loading the content briefly and then display only " E ", even if I clicked back to the Desc. page. This same thing happened to probably every mod on the Nexus I had bookmarked.

FIX :

Access the mod you want DIRECTLY from the Nexus homepage and search for it manually.

Nexus must have done some site maintenance or changes, because the problem had something to do with the URL I was using FROM MY BOOKMARKS. If you are using a pre-saved URL, the Nexus might have changed part of the web address all pages on their site uses.

Additionally, this also resolved the same issue for me when I accessed a mod page using a HOTLINK FROM ANOTHER SITE (the blue clickable link on pages that brings you to the site you want). Just access the webpage via Nexus.

Hope this helps someone or anyone! And thank you to OP for posting their initial issue!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this seems broken for me again. using latest Chrome, no java script blockers, and just experienced this similarily. A few minutes ago everything was alright (maybe because the sites were still in the cache) but now every site shows the same behavior. On initial load, the selected tab (default description) gets correctly loaded. Selecting any other tab just shows 'E', even when returning to Desc.

Out of coincidence one tab had the default tab on the files tab through some URL differencies (http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/22/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fwitcher3%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D1031&pUp=1 to be exact) and so the files tab was shown correctly, but same behaviour still remained.

For me this is atleast a work around to explore the files, just switching mod ID in the URL works lol :D

EDIT: Also, popups of any kind return an error ('An error occured'), for example when clicking any of the actions in the mod page or trying to download the files by clicking the 'download manually' button (right clicking the header still works luckily)

EDIT2: Now, it works again, after a few hours. Might just have been an instability...
