Mods are too confusing- new computer with a noob owner

My skyrim/mods experience with a virus side story. Yay. If anyone can give me advice or point me in the direction of how I can A. get mods to work. B. check to see if there is any leftovers from a potential virus.

--------------

I have no clue what I am doing, at all. I got my gaming computer a couple of days ago, and installed skyrim and tried downloading mods. I eventually got 3 simple mods to work Sky UI helmet toggle etc. So after that I tried downloading this mod called Real Vision ENB and all the stuff with it. After I had everything installed skyrim would not start.

Meanwhile while as I was messing with Skyrim I went ahead installed my Razer Naga mouse.

So I installed the software from www.razerzone.com/synapse2 directly from the mouse handbook. So afterwards I decided to install Avast and remove default antivirus that comes with Windows 8. As soon as I installed Avast it went nuts. It said that the software from Razer Naga was something called Win32 evo-gen (susp). Wonderful. So it was placed in the chest and I ran numerous scans. I even installed Malwarebytes and scanned it with that. I ran the Avast boot scan. Nothing So I rescanned the file in the chest and no virus. I pulled the infected file out and scanned it again, nothing. So I think it was maybe a false positive.

Skyrim nexus was acting weird though, the site said the server was overloaded and then I could not look any of the mod tabs, it was stuck on description. Clicking on the files tab didn't do anything. So I reset IE. that worked with the tabs. but skyrim nexus still has problems loading.

I then uninstalled all the mods and files and reinstalled Skyrim assuming that it was ruined because it would not start. It was that d3d9 or d9d3.dll file and some other error. After watching numerous videos and reading through posts I think the problem was that I needed an ENB injector file.

I have decided to give up on ENB for the moment and look at simple mods like helmet toggle. But now after I reinstalled SKSE and patched it the desktop icon says "please update to latest version of skyrim" I learned that this error happens if uninstall and reinstall skyrim.

And skyrim nexus also still has trouble loading.

So now I am really mad. I think this is the fastest anyone has messed up a computer, assuming it has a virus. I have Avast on my laptop with zone alarm firewall. I haven't gotten a virus on my laptop for a couple of years now. If by chance a virus did get on my laptop, avast will run a boot scan and destroy any virus. I used to get those rogue antivirus programs all the time. In fact that's really the only type of virus that I know how to get rid of.

Don't ever get Avast. Ever. It'll bog your computer down and wreak havoc with your drivers. I had to do a system restore to get rid of it and make my USB ports work again.

Go get Comodo. Free and far superior.

Nexusmods is hilariously slow and the servers are choking out due to the poor programming in their mod manager (checks EVERY MOD you have for updates whenever it's launched). So don't expect much.

ENB won't fix your problem. You didn't install the DIrectX redistributable from Microsoft.

You need to update skyrim. Should be a setting somewhere in Steam for that.

Edit: Out of curiosity, what's your specs?

Windows 8 64bit

32GB RAM

GTX Titan

Asus Z87 motherboard

Anyway Skyrim is up to date but it won't launch with skse launcher or any of the skse launch files like TES_.exe. I have to launch the normal version it seem the mods load but I have a question. Do the mod options show up in the options menu. I see Sky Ui and helmet toggle, but not the other ones. It is working Calientes Beautiful Bodies Edition -CBBE I am trying to find sexy dark brotherhood armor mods now. I am going to stay away from any mods that look too complicated until I understand where and how mods install.

The only other game that I played was WoW on a hunk of junk machine that could barely handle low settings. So steam is completely new to me

nope "please update to latest version of skyrim." As I said in the first post,I did uninstall skyrim and reinstalled it- I deleted all the files in the game folder which was the modded files. Typing the error message into google got me this post here and this did work. But the game loaded and when I started a new game it froze on the logo screen. So ran the skse patcher and the game gave me the first error message. Which was "please update to latest version of skyrim.

These below are posts on the steam forums.

"If you recently upgraded SKSE, make sure you deleted the old SKSE files in the Skyrim folder. If you did a simple "copy/replace" it will not delete the old SKSE.dll file. It should say something like SKSE_version.DLL"

and

"Rename TESV.exe to something like TESV-backup.

Then do "verify game cache" and let STEAM redownload TESV.exe; perhaps that will work."

Also I don't use the full version of Avast. I use zone alarm for the firewall. I have never had a problem until now. You said Avast messes with drivers? On my laptop I played mostly mmo's and never really had problems with drivers. The drivers that I had for things like my printer and stuff worked fine.

As I said. Run this two files first.

You say Avast hasn't given you any problems. Come back and tell us that when it does.

Make sure you're using 7zip when extracting SKSE. The ENTIRE archive. Drag and drop the files onto your Skyrim root folder. SKSELauncher should be next to TesV.exe. Allow all overwrites.

Worst case scenario, We'll use teamviewer and I'll see what the issue is.

When you uninstalled Skyrim did you use the "Delete Local Content" option in the Steam client? Also did you clear out your user settings in "My Documents\My Games\Skyrim"? I don't know if that would help, but I always do that to make sure I have a clean install.

I forget. I know I cleared out all the skyrim folders and mods. I just went into the steam folder after the game was uninstalled and cleared out all mod files and the like.

Fifty, I did run those 2 files. I can run skyrim but not from skse. I have to run the normal launcher, but skyrim did load with the mods I had installed. Sky Ui and helmet toggle work. The other one I can't see in the options menu but it works. The other mod is a remodeling of armor and you have to craft it in whiterun. Currently I am watching the videos in youtube for beginners.

I have been using WinRAR.

http://skse.silverlock.org/ is where I got skse. I downloaded the first link "installer"

Thank you for helping me by the way :)
