Crusader93
i have another idea! in oblivion you must eat, and if you dont eat in 4,5,6 days you...dieisn´t that good?and if you sleep in the darkest of night all alone in the wilderness their will come lots of thugs cutthrouts brigands etc etc.
Abramul
So half the players keel over a week into the game because they didn't think to grab a bite? There are scripts that do that sort of thing, I personally don't see the point when you can just quaff a Restore Fatigue potion. As for bandits...maybe if you're near their camp. Otherwise, you're either: no-one important, not worth the trip...or you're some hero who could smite them with one blow. Capitalization (where appropriate) is your FRIEND! (You're getting better, I admit)
Peregrine
Yes, brilliant idea. Lets add a pointless eating system just to provide something to distract the player from the story. Did you forget that after 5 minutes into the game, you will never lack food? So all you'd be doing is annoying people by making them remember to click the "eat food" button often enough. Remember, a basic sword looted from the first NPC you kill would buy more food than you could carry. Even the most insignificant magic item would buy a lifetime of food. The economy is just that one-sided towards adventurers, getting food is never going to be a challenge.
CrazyGilbert
its not that bad of an idea more realistic. To make it even more useable than using a restore fatigue potion because you could bake them lots of money
Peregrine
The problem is realism =/= good gameplay. It can be, but just because it's more realistic doesn't make it more fun. Realism is only a good thing if it's done well in the context of the overall game, and food in Oblivion fails this test.
Luthiel_Dragonsoul
yes i agree, it should be added in a mod but packaging it with the game, would upset many people and ruin the expeirience, and although i am a purist and would download the mod if it was made, it should not be added to the game luthiel
Malchik
As Peregrine observed such a mod already exists for Morrowind (as are mods re needing to sleep and to bathe). There are people who play the game as realistically as possible - eating, sleeping, bathing are three examples even without the mods. It's entirely up to the player. In real life I never sleep and only bath once every second millenium. I'm fed by intravenous drip so that I can stay glued (with araldite) to the computer. Why would I want to bother with these boring notions in the game?
Wookiee
because you can Malchik... becouse you can :) seriosly tho if you want realism I will make some scripts... don't think people liked the amount of realisem in my last scripts tho "why do i keep dieing when i spend to much time at the lip of a volcano in full ebony armor?" "Heat stroke/exhaustion" "that sucks" "thats realisem"
Luthiel_Dragonsoul
oh and there is always the ever popular "why am i losing health, i am wearing armor" "ummm that armor has a spell on it" "spells are gay" "spells are a major part of the game" "i hate the game" "why are you playing it then"- actual convo i had with friend brad AKA edam elod luthiel
Akominatus
One of the later Ultimas moved in the direction of hunt/butcher/cook/eat realism, but luckily didn't go all the way in implementing it. Apart from the lopsided game economics mentioned above, the choice in practice would be between clicking on 'eat food', and picking up edible objects and consuming them; both sound terminally tedious. Not, please, in the main game; masochists can always get hold of a module. BTW, if someone is seriously into realism, they should realise that nobody ever, ever wore full plate armour for any purpose other than being hoisted onto a horse and taking part in a thirty-second joust. You certainly don't go staggering across the wilderness in that kind of outfit.
