Can you help a new guy out?

Hey everyone. I'm new to the Oblivion modding thing, but have had Oblivion for about a year now. I haven't played it much because for the better part of that year my laptop was suffering from a severe case of being punched in the face. Anyhow, I've been looking around this site and the resources the FAQ's have directed me to and have come up with a list of mods I think I want. I'm focusing mainly on aesthetic mods, with a few gameplay mods. I don't want to get into the quest mods quite yet. I have the mod manager and the official patch, and will get obse later tonight.

I need help with the order I should be installing these mods, if there are later or updated versions of the ones I listed, and their potential compatibility with each other. I got all these from lists linked in the FAQ. I've never done mods for Oblivion, but I have done a little for some other games, and I have a buddy that has done some modding for Oblivion, so I think I'll be fine with that part.

I also need some suggestions for pose mods and a body replacer with lots of compatible content with it. I looked around a little bit and I think I like Eshme's the best, maybe BAB, but I don't know how many other mods are compatible with them. I'm open to suggestions on which body to use. (Yes, I want some nekkidness and sexy clothes/underwear/armor (<-lots of that :)), but no big boobs if possible. Which body is best for that?) Also, are the bodies compatible with the face textures? One last thing, any new sexy races I should get as well? Me and the wife require amusement. poo! I bet she'll want some naked dudes too. I guess I need some suggestions for that. :(

Sorry for such a long first post with so much work for you guys to do to help me. Thanks in advance.

General Load-Order Guidelines

Here are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally.

~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later.

~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN)

~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through.

Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later).

So basically, it stacks up like this...

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Minor Mods / DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mod/Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

Expanded Load-Order Guidelines

by dev_akm

I would extend this to include:

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Weather/Environment/Sound Mods>

<Minor Mods/New Items/Houses/DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

<Quests>

<Compatibility Patches/UOMP/Merged Leveled Lists>

And a special-case warning for Knights.esp (Knights of the Nine) -- you may not be able to move it earlier than some other mods (some people have had problems after moving it before OOO, for example).

That's basically the structure I use and I have 140+ mods working well together.

Another way of describing this (posted by DMan77):

....

Oblivion

unoffical patch

Deeper realism mods that add sights and sounds

added content like weapons/items

gameplay changes, like 'must eat and sleep'

The OOO type

the 'new begining' type mod..

................................................................................

.................

body replacer exnems,then add HGEC upgrade for women. Men Roberts IV or V

HGEC allows you to pick a body style and cup size,its the most used and has the most mods for armor and clothing also.

Roberts also allows choise in body type.

Here's another question about load order: Once I load all these, if I find another small mod I want to add, do I have to reload everything, or will the mod manager thingy place it in the right precedence?

if you add to it you should check its order against teh guidelines Dez listed. Other then that it should be ok. If you load something new and are using Wrye Bash you may want to rebuild the Bashed Patch to be sure.

Well, since everybody's on the mood to help each other out, i have a question.

Since i installed Deady Reflex, the game crashes during initialization. If i uncheck the Deadly Reflex in OBMM, the game works fine.

OBSE, Oblivion and all are fully up-to-date, only one DeadlyReflex is checked, and in the bottom of the .esp OBMM list.

What's going on?

@leon Please do not start a new topic in the middle of someone elses topic. It makes it confusing when people are trying to reply to more than one subject in the same thread. And yours may get overlooked.

It is easy to start your own topic. Just click on the New topic box that is no the upper right or lower right of the thread.

What are DLC's and UOMP? Where would the body replacer go?

Also, to reiterate my other question: Does the new Unnecessary Violence complement or replace Sudden Violence, or are they two different things?
