Very strange mod problem...

Ok, I'm stumped on a problem I'm having with mod crashes, so maybe someone here can give me a hand. Here is what I know about my problem.

I have been running around 12 different mods for a few weeks now with no issues. As soon as I install either Mart's Mutant Mod or Weapon Mod Kits, I begin to have a problem with a particular suit of modded power armor that has worked fine before those were installed. (The armor is Brother Shogo's Japanese Power Armor) If I have MMM or WMK installed and I am wearing the body piece of shogo's kamikaze armor (have to be wearing it, not just have it installed, and the helmet doesn't cause any problems), the game crashes whenever I get lit on fire.

The source of the fire doesn't seem to matter, I tested this with fire ants, a flamer equipped raider and a heavy incinerator equipped enclave trooper.

If MMM or WMK is active and I am wearing the kamikaze body piece and I get lit on fire, the game crashes instantly.

Is this a problem with the armor mesh and the "on fire" shaders? Do those mods change something I'm not noticing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really like my combination of mods, and Shogo's armor is really nice looking! (I don't want to give it up if I don't have to!)

I did a bit more testing to get to the bottom of this last night.

The bug is affecting all armors from the Japanese Power Armor Set mod, but if I just install the mod and run it as normal, they work fine (no crash when fire hits me). However, if I make any changes to the mod it seems to cause this bug to appear.

I changed some of the armor's base stats and object effects (no scripts) on some armors, and not on others and what I found was that only the armors that I had made changes to were crashing when I got hit by fire.

I also discovered that being on fire didn't cause the crashing, if I got lit on fire and afterword equipped the bugged armor it would not crash, it is only when I get hit with a fire attack while wearing the armor that the crash occurs.

So basically I have to have MMM or WMK installed and be wearing the body piece of one of the Japanese Power Armor Set armors that I have changed the stats on. If these conditions are met and I get hit by a fire attack... crash.

Obscure problem, I know... Anyone with enough modding expertise to give me some advice on how to fix this?

I was considering using the armor unmodded (just for looks) and putting all the abilities I wanted on a different body slot item that I could wear with the un-modded armor. (Not the most precise solution but it could work...)

strange... did you check FO3edit for conflicts? try to alter loading order too... Japanese PA before, or after MMM+WMK...

I didn't see any conflicts in FO3edit.

I removed WMK completely and I'm running it with just MMM.

I know that esm files always load before esp files, and the mutant mod esp files are supposed to be loaded last in the load order. I suppose I could try putting this after them...

Could be

need to update drivers, I always forget that one

Defrag the drives, hate that one

You didn't watch enough "Stand Alone Complex"

Mod conflicts load orders ect, huh

It's limited to fire and that armor.

We don't really know what you have though.

I vote for more information.

More exhaustive testing today has revealed that the problem is more complex than I thought. I tried numerous load orders and found that whether I altered the stats on the armor or not was not the deciding factor. Even after reloading the original mod I got crashes when I was hit by fire. I found that using the un-edited armor, if I loaded the game wearing it and was hit by fire it would not crash. But if at any point I put it on after loading a game fire would crash me.

Here was the last load order I was trying:

Fallout3.esm

Anchorage.esm

ThePitt.esm

BrokenSteel.esm

Cubeexperimental.esm

Mart'sMutantMod.esm

The Club House at Vault 101.esp

Action_boy_hacking.esp

Galaxy_news_radio20[m].esp

3EFdrgplate.esp

warlordarmor.esp

laser_katana.esp

Miniguns_non_replacer Backpack.esp

G3silentgun.esp

HZ_INGRAM.esp

25mm_AA_gun.esp

14mmpistolmod.esp

VATSnormalweapondegradation.esp

Flesh Burning Plasma.esp

Mart's Mutant Mod.esp

Mart's Mutant Mod-Broken Steel.esp

japanese-armor-set.esp

mergedpatch.esp

I also tried one with the armor before the MMM ESPs, before the VATSdmg esp, and just after the other armor mods, all same results.

I re-ran FO3edit masterupdate and made a new merged patch everytime I changed anything.

Video card drivers are fully updated. I haven't defragged the computer yet, but I've only owned it for three weeks. I will run a defrag on it tonight since I know installing games and whatnot can frag things up.

I am at wit's end with all this testing... if no solution can be found here I will probably have to pass on this armor, I've spent hours trying to figure this out. Too bad, the mesh and texture work on it is beautiful!

i've experienced similar problem two days ago... not with japanese armor, but with another user made armor, called colossus heavy. didn't try another armor and fire yet, this can be a good point... but, the crash happens not with all fire weaps, and it doesn't happen with god mode active.

i've noticed it when rushing into some enclave checkpoint once - the heavy icinerator didn't do any harm except some burning and life loss, but after few seconds while targeted by flamer, the game went down. so, i was looking for some differences in actor effect between this two weaps in FO3edit, and there truly is a difference. flamer has set standard (vanilla) burning effect as impact effect, the icinerator has no impact effect set... maybe this could point the way, sadly i had no time to do some more tests. i'll return with some updates soon .)
