More Fable-Like Oblivion

I'm... a bit of a Fable Fanboy, however, having been playing oblivion for a while now, I see it's potential to easily exceed Fable 2.

I'm wondering though, one of my favorite features of Fable 2 was the ability to buy literally, everything. Any chance anybodies working on a mod to allow you to purchase every (Or almost every) building, as well as make money from doing so?

It's a bit of a large mod, admittedly, but perhaps someone has done it?

unfortunately, you won't get much support for this idea as many people , when coming into contact with fable related material on this forum have put it down.

that said, this would generally be impossible anyways. first, we'll take a look at fable 1:

tattoos are a "can't have" as that would require a new body texture entirely, and because of the way the oblivion engine runs, all people of the same race and gender have the same texture.

Character morphing (changing size proportionate to your strength and such), something you find in both games, is actually being worked on by someone, though it's only in beta right now and still has a lot of features to go before it's ready. You can find it here. Keep in mind, this would normally be impossible without insane amounts of scripting, so I'm very impressed with this modder's progress

weapon augments? we already have that with enchantments. There's in fact a good many things about the combat system that we already have already (single button play, aim your bow...) though, in my opinion, the oblivion engine runs these far better.

the diverse spells are something that you need only look around the site for. sure, they may not be their fable counterparts, but you can find are of effect spells, unique target spells, and many other things. I suggest Midas Magic. there's a reason it's #1 on the top 100.

the creatures are a bit more difficult, but readily doable. see, all it requires is new meshes, skeleton, textures, and animation. however, the animation part is the real problem. animating creatures is a rare skill, and it's doubtful anybody else wants to mesh and texture something that may not even get animated. this stands for Fable 2 as well.

now, if you want the guns from Fable 2, there's only one mod that I know of that gives a realistic version of guns, and there's a few reasons why I haven't gotten it myself. check the mod itself if you like here

Actually, As I stated previously, I'd be happy just having the option to buy more of the real-estate in the game. Having access to (Eight?) houses (More if you mod I suppose) simply isn't enough. At the same time, being able to make money from renting out not just the eight houses (There's a mod for that) but stores (And the city castles XD) as well would be... just... wonderful.

yeah, sounds like a good idea. hes saying you have the ability to buy houses, then make moeny from people renting them. for instance, you could buy the whole waterfront district and collect moeny from all the residents living there. good idea, i also liked this feature from fable.

Even with something as simple sounding as that, it still gets into a lot of difficulty. Each NPC has its own specific schedule attached to it, and a huge part of that schedule is their home. If you purchase it off of them, it'd be a real inconvenience to have them maintain the same schedule (they walk into YOUR house and sleep in YOUR bed). So, if you want to make it realistic, and make every house purchasable, then you literally have to create an alternate schedule for almost every NPC in the game, which is an enormous undertaking in itself.

The whole idea of Oblivion in a Fable-style is very difficult, because while they are somewhat similar, they are completely differently structured from the way they are created (not that many fable NPC's have schedules, and the few that do are simple). Oblivion was designed in such a way that their NPC's are as realistic as possible, which is one reason why there is such a low NPC to landmass ratio (there realistically isn't enough NPC's in cities).

It just the way the game is designed, and changing it to be in a style like fable would take dozens of people months to do.

^couldnt you just make a script when the player buys a estate, or house, that building becomes owned by the player, but the NPC still has the same scheduale, then another script which adds a certain amount of money depending on the amount of houses he owns?

ya you could, (I actually think it'd be pretty easy), but I don't understand what the fun in that would be. There are easier ways to make money than renting out land. Plus it'd be pointless since the most expensive purchasable stuff in the game actually are homes. I think the most expensive weapon is like 15k, which once you reach level 20 is a breeze to get, so money isn't that important at a certain point.

I'm certain once you read through the beginner's guide on the construction set wiki you'll be familiar enough with CS to just mod it yourself if you want, but it still doesn't seem like it'd be that great.

Every individual house would need an individual script. Just to buy further scripting for so many days passed getting rent. This would not be a bad idea, scaled down abit. That is ALOT of scripting as there are hundreds of homes and buildings. Now, you can have one or two per city to give you rent. Making everything buyable is too much scripting for so little benifiet in my opinion. If it makes your game play fun, try and tackle it, but i would start of with something small. Or maybe just a new custom rentable house outside the cities.
