Red Exclamation: How to debug?

Is there a way, in game or else where, to debug a missing mesh? I would be arbitrarily guessing why a caravaner has a giant red exclamation. If I could root cause it, it will be easier to resolve. Right now, all I will do is reinstall all mods I have on that have meshes. That is kind of overkill imo.

Yes, I do have ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated on.

Thanks for any help.

Thank you for the info. I am a newbie, so I do not know what to do next. I did as you suggested in the console and got the following data. I have MMM, FOOK, FWE, WMK, and CFW installed.

Caravan Guard Steve (21006530) 7 Items

3 - Frag Grenades (00004330)

2 - Stimpak (00015169)

1 - Merc Veteran Outfit (0008C83C)

===(0008C83F)===

--> Slave04 Right Glove (0008C83E)

--> Slave04 Left Glove (008C83D)

1 - AA-12 Combat Shotgun (00004327)

2 - Shotgun Shell (WG 0.10) (00028EEA)

I am guessing it has to do with the Slave04 Gloves. I do not know what to do for here.

Veteran,

Thank you for helping. I just don't understand I guess. In game, I tried to add each of the items in his inventory and the red exclamation never went away. I used the following command for each of the Form IDs:

*target the NPC

additem 0008C83E

I did notice that he is trying to hold a gun of some sort and it is physically not showing in game. This adds another guess at what it may be. I checked the FormID for the shotgun that was in his showinventory (00004327) in FO3Edit. That item, along with a bunch of others, has a pink background.

***Edit***

Upon further investigation, the CombatShotgun.NIF file is not in my meshes folder. I will have to investigate to find out where that mesh comes from along with a few others I checked in FO3Edit.

I am guessing that I am having a major issue with Weapon Mod Kits trying to do the Merged Patch. I get the following at the end of trying to create it.

what i am saying is. One of his items is missing a mesh, if you add the items to yourself, by either console using additem, or by killing the npc and looting him, and then putting the stuff on you one by one, you'll find out what exactly is missing a mesh.

Also, vanilla resources are packed inside the BSAs.

Maybe I can hijack this thread a little bit... :thumbsup:

I have the red Exclaim's relating to frag grenades...The funny thing is that they only become !'s when I throw the nade....I can see the nade, I can find nades lying around etc and no !'s for those. I'm a noob's noob when it come to this stuff so please be gentle...

There's the world object grenade, the held item first person grenade, the third person held item grenade, and the projectile grenade. The game switches between these different meshes and textures (and in some case, base objects too) silently.

If the grenade is a ! in the air, and not anywhere else, then the problem is the projectile: a mod of yours assigned the grenade weapon a wrong projectile, or changed the path of the projectile grenade's mesh and you're missing the new mesh.

Yes, I narrowed it down to FOOK and on further investigation it appears I'm missing a big chunk of the Mod. Namely, part 3. I have a feeling that installing that will solve my probs.

Thanks for the help.
