i, after many, many years I have decided to hop back into Skyrim. I had SE from years back (never played), and just purchased the Anniversary edition after looking at some of the requirements for the mods I wanted. I spent the better part of this afternoon trying to install all of the mods I thought I would enjoy for a playthrough, only to load the game and it tell me there are not any mods present. I am very old school and manually installed everything. I've tried googling what I thought would be a fairly simple fix, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you!

You should not install stuff manually at this point. I suggest you get your game back to 'clean' state. Likely will need a reinstall. Launch the game once via Steam. Grab either Vortex or MO2 mod manager, start off by installing SKSE, verify the game launches properly through mod manager. Now get a mod or two installed and enabled (SkyUI and RaceMenu are good options) launch, make sure things work, go from there.

As scorrp suggested, a mod manager is your friend. Pick one. MO2 or Vortex.

I'm old school too. I'm so old school I remember programming a main frame using punch cards and a world where computers were something only professional programmers used. But when I started playing Skyrim, I installed one (Vortex in my case) and never looked back. It handles all the BullSH_. IDK about you but old school or not, I don't want playing Skyrim to be a full time ___Job___ (and a "job" in the worst sense of the word)

I've installed around a thousand mods (about half uninstalled for this or that reason) and play with a current load of around 520-530 active mods. I didn't get here by manually installing everything. (although not every single thing has to be "installed". some, like Racemenu presets can simply be added to the appropriate folder(s), with no need to fold them into the managed portion.
