How do you flag a heavy weapon to only be usable in Power Armor?

How do you flag a heavy weapon to only be usable in Power Armor? I'm thinking keyword? Simply increasing the weight to ridiculous levels (like 40 lbs) is an underwhelming solution.

I'm looking for a reason to actually wear PA and have them be able to do something special that you can't do without them, like using heavy weapons.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Yeah, not a bad option, but honestly I was thinking of something a bit stronger. Let me give an example, the Broadsider. This weapon makes literally no sense to be lugging around such a canon unless you are doing so in PA. Yeah you are a big strong guy...but you are a human being (supposedly at least) and hauling such a weapon around is ridiculous. In PA? Yeah, you are a walking tank.

Anyway, thus the request about the keyword thing.

I understand where you are coming from.

I think supermutants with strenght 20+ could still handle the super heavy weapons.

But you make a good point, huge weapons are not realistically wielded by even the strongest men w/o PA, Keywords is the way to do it.

It would be pretty easy to do via keywords and very minor scripting.

If you like, I could just add this as an option to my mod(the one linked above), gating the very large/powerful weapons behind power armor.

Wow how cool would that be!

Would NPCs be affected as well? ( I think in well over 2000 hrs of gameplay I never observed any non PA sporting NPCs wield huge weapons, like flamers or miniguns, before unless they were SMs but...)

Or you could set the strenght to ridiculously high.

Like 20 (or whatever the typical SM strenght is, Strong is at 24, but he is said to be stronger than other SMs, in the fallout franchise SMs were always able to wield heavy weapons)

That would preclude all humanoids from wielding oversize weapons w/o PA, except supermutants.

PS: I would not consider missle launchers to be heavy weapons for the purose of this discussion, since real world and in-game, folks do use them w/o PA all the time.

Alright, added Power Armor only Heavy Weapons as an option in my mod. It will require MCM to enable it though.

I didn't include NPCs in this since if they don't meet the requirements and also don't have another weapon, you'll have precluded them from engaging in any meaning combat with you. Which sounds ok until you realize that a bunch of these raiders might have hunting rifles but only 3 strength, which means they all have weapons they're terrible with and I don't find that logical.

Fair enough. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you thank you!! I've waited years for this!

I also noticed where you added my name to the credits on the mod. Thank you. That was really nice.
