Layfon
Just new to PC oblivion, and on-top of that the mods. I'm a PS3 oblivion player. so i'm pretty frustrated with all the textures and meshes. Currently im trying to install some hair, and cosmetic eyes, armour. Stuff that weren't able to be done on the ps3 (almost everything). In my data folder. Under texture, their is only one folder "Effects". Do i have to create my own folder of Characters do put some .dds in? And also. I have completely no clue to where Meshes go. Do i create a meshes folder in the data folder?

Usually when you install mods the folders are already in the archive and you can unzip them into your Data directory, but essentially yes you would need to create those folders. The path would generally be Data\Meshes\ and Data\Textures. Files with the extension .bsa, .esm or .esp need to go under Data\.
Layfon
Thanks, I have tried this just now. But another problem has showed it. Gives me a WinRAR : Diagnostic Messages ie)Cannot open meshes/characters/etc.Could drag and drop be another method?
Apophilius
Are you using WinRAR as your extractor? I have found WinRAR to be a pain when it comes to extracting .rar data files. I prefer 7-zip, which you can download here. Once you've downloaded and installed 7-zip and downloaded your mod, go to the "downloads" folder, find your mod, and extract it with 7-zip by selecting every file the folder and pressing the minus symbol, "extract." (I prefer to extract it to the desktop since its easier to bring to the data files). After extracting, bring the .esp/ .esm files along with all textures, meshes, sounds, etc and drag them to your oblivion "data" file, which can be reached by right clicking on your oblivion icon and selecting "open file location." After that's done, double click to where you get the little box, that appears that says "play, data files, etc." click on "data files" and check mark the name of the mod you want to activate, and boom, next time you load up the mod should work. Hope that helped
SavageArtistry
It's also possible that the file corrupted when you downloaded. If 7zip doesn't help I'd try downloading it (the mod) again just to be sure.
Layfon
Hmm, nope not that. Tried that several times, i'm sure drag and drop works since i've done it with other programs. I've encountered a newer problem. Where i cannot see the mods. My version is 1.2 (I also posted another Topic on this). Anything else? do i need Oblivions mod manager? or something? Even if its just a single file with a .ESP file for a sword. It does not appear. Anything on this?
Apophilius
if the file is .omod then you need the oblivion mod manager. If its just an .esp/ .esm file and you have it stored in your data file and it doesn't appear on the selection list then it would seem as if you're missing a script extender (obse). apart from that I wouldn't know. Maigrets
OBSE has nothing to do with why esp and ESM files don't show up for activation. Different matter entirely. If your mod files aren't showing in the Launcher or your chosen method of activating them, for example OBMM, it sounds as if you haven't extracted them to Oblivion\data but to the Oblivion root directory. Especially if it happens with an esp only file. Extract mod files to a temporary folder on your desktop, for example and check the file structure before copying and pasting. Depending on how they are packaged you could have a data folder within your Oblivion Data folder and the game can't find the files. Meshes, textures, and sound folders (plus others if the mod needs them) will be created if they aren't already there the first time and when you install future mods you say yes to overwrite. This doesn't remove files, but adds the new ones to the existing folders.
SavageArtistry
Are you using Vista? That may also have something to do with it if you are still having difficulties after installing to the correct directories.
