Sound Doesn't Work, People Talk Too Fast To Read

Basically, I have a problem on my computer with Oblivion my system's shoddy integrated sound card, which has no hardware mixer like most integrated sound devices. I tend to chat on Skype a lot, and as a result I have no sound in Oblivion when I start it during a call. On the flipside, Skype loses sound when Oblivion starts up. I don't mind having no sound in Oblivion if I'm playing it, but the problem is with speaking to NPC's. When I speak to them, the voice audio doesn't play and the subtitles disappear too quickly for me to read. I am a fast reader, but not a speed reader, so I miss out on a lot of dialogue. Is there a setting in Oblivion.ini that I can change to prevent this problem, or will I need a new solution?

Not sure if your still on here, or if you'll find this useful but anyone else who finds this thread probably has the same problem, and they'll probably be grateful for a fix! Anyway, i had this problem and I got this after a while.

Make sure you have the Latest version of OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender), which can be found here

And then, download and install the mod "Universal Silent Voice", it forces Oblivion to play an 8 second clip of silence, so you can the subtitles appear for 8 seconds. It can be found here

Hope this helps you, or anyone!

Universal Silent Voice is a great mod to have. One characteristic of it though is that it plays 8 seconds of silence even if the character says "Yes" or "No" or "Hello." If you have a particular mod that you use a lot and you are getting annoyed at the 8 second pauses, then you might want to run TES4Gecko and create silent voice files for that mod. That way you get lip movement and periods of silence that match the length of what is being said more appropriately.
