anjenthedog
Sorry Vortex/Nexus, but I can't mark any the best answer. Still waiting on an official, and comprehensible response to this long standing problem. When the player chooses the default response (which presumably, according to the standard set by other vortex recommendations, should be the "correct" response) the mod that was just installed (and specifically for which which the modal dialogue was forced by Vortex), is wiped, leaving the mod content column for that mod blank. Or more accurately leaving it marked in bold red EMPTY and containing no other icons like script, or Game Plugins, or any others except EMPTY. ChemBoy1
If you selected the choice to "Save Changes" in the External Changes popup and emptied out the mod's staging folder, all you have to do is right-click on the mod in the mod list and select Reinstall. This will get the files back. You can also shift-click or ctrl-click to select multiple mods and select Reinstall from the blue banner at the bottom of the mod list view. There does not appear to be anything broken with this function in latest Vortex v1.12.3 in my experience. Like Pickysaurus said, this is probably happening due to external factors in your Operating System or storage setup.
anjenthedog
I don't mean to be contentious but rilly... FTR it has nothing to do with my system or file system and you guys know it. It has to do with a lack of proper information stated in the applet. You just now said " you have to reinstall the mod" yet nowhere in that applet content does it say that. it perplexes me that after all this time (I think the first I complained about it was back in late 2019 or early 2020) you have still not fixed the applet interface to properly state the effects of performing one of the two options, and the naming of those two is simply nuts. "Save" to delete your mod content, and 'revert' to do...well I frankly have no idea except that game still appears to be undamaged afterwards (although the word revert literally means to return to the previous state, so tbh, I have no idea of what state the associated content (mod ini files etc) is in following "revert")? Sorry, but neither "function" name (save/revert) makes a lick of sense, and the function descriptions are unclear and in error, and they have been for at least the past ~4 years. edit: I'd also note that IFF reinstallation of said mod is required following directing the applet to use the "save" option, you should say so up front, in the applet, and maybe even provide an explanation of why, and why choosing revert would or wouldn't be a better option. As I've noted (several times over the years) the English word "revert" means to "return to previous state" (implying, by use of the word, that the original settings associated with the previous version might be instantiated, theoretically overwriting any new settings that said mod update provides, and thereby potentially compromising the game integrity)
BrotherShamus
I'm experiencing this right now... never had the problem before and have touched nothing outside of Vortex. Installed several mods which deployed correctly... then installed a few at once and Vortex is telling me changes have occurred outside of Vortex.
