bben46
I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them. http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/ If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you. Please be honest and don't worry about hurting my feelings with criticism as I have a thick skin.
Metroidplayr
I've done everything the instructions tell me to, and when I get to copying the test mod for the dagger, it says: ! C:\Users\Cody\Desktop\Oblivion mods\bben_test_dagger-16334.7z: Cannot open Bben_Test_Dagger.esp! C:\Users\Cody\Desktop\Oblivion mods\bben_test_dagger-16334.7z: Error - operation failed. Do you know what this means?
bben46
It is a 7-zip error. Did you associate the .7z with 7-zip?Or your download may be corrupted, try downloading it again. I just downloaded it and used 7-zip to extract it and it worked perfectly.
Metroidplayr
I think it might be because I downloaded it to the Oblivion mods folder. Is there another place I should've downloaded it? Sorry for all the trouble, but I barely even download games to the computer, so mods are a bit confusing to me.
bben46
You download from the tesnexus to your computer - it's best to have a separate downloads folder to keep that stuff in. Something like C:\Downloads Then you extract - or unzip the mod into the data folder C:\program files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data. The 7-zip should have installed itself into its own folder in C:\program files\7-zip
