Can this game run ok on big monitors?

I once read it does not run well on large monitors and things get wonky.

Right now my NVIDA GEexperience has me run the game on a really high resolution 3840x something when i push the "optimize" tab. I am currently on travel so not sure what the "something" is but the first number was definitely 3840.

And it runs fine (albeit the font for my console commands is now tiny)

But my monitor is not real large, maybe 27inch diagonal tops, albeit it was sold to me as "4K".

Since i can run high resolution should I go for a larger monitor (or curved?) to take better advantage of the settings that my graphics card supports?

And how large is too large before the game gets wonky?

I have a 21:9 monitor and I had to make a nice number of small edits to menu meshes (.nif files) and the interfaces (.swf files) to get the game working properly because the well-known TruBy9 Ultrawide mod doesn't support the monitor's resolution. (TruBy9 Ultrawide helps but it doesn't align everything correctly).

The only small issue that I couldn't make a simple fix for is that in the dialogue camera, there might be some clipping under the hairline of the dialogue target NPC, depending on which hairstyle they have. (I don't have mod added hairstyles so I can only talk about the vanilla ones). Again, editing the meshes is the solution currently.. I'm wondering how the Next-Gen update will affect these issues though.

Now looking to do any edits to files if i cna void it.

How large is your monitor?

Native resolution is 3840×1600. (On second thought, I think the hairstyle issue is not caused by the FOV but interestingly, it does happen only in the dialogue camera. I have made a texture fix earlier, that could be cause too).

There is also this mod

Ultra Wide Interface (21x9) at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

But is it even neccessary when my 4070 graphics card appears to detect the monitor (?) and makes setting recommendations based on that?

I just want to avoid a fiasco of buying abigger monitor and then it not working right..

Unfortunately, yes because the game was originally made for 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios. The problem is that it didn't come with native support for 21:9 or 31:9 which means one needs to manually edit many assets (interfaces, meshes and a few textures) to make UI elements fit perfectly on an ultrawide monitor (there's no adaptive system that moves UI elements for 21:9 or 31:9). When I made my 'Store All Junk Button for All Containers' mod, I had to release a separate version for each aspect ratio...

There are already mods that fix it and there's a chance the developers add ultrawide support in the Next-Gen update as it's not that difficult and for the announced 120Hz support, they need to revisit the UI anyway.

I have an Ultrawide 45" in 3440x1440.

Like LarannKiar, with a few edits to my .ini and the TrueBy9 mod. Not 100% perfect (like looking true a scope leaves the left & right edges "open"), but it works for me. To lazy to edit and correct the TrueBy9 .swf for scopes.

& there is the next-gen update coming this year, which most likely will introduce support for more resolutions to the game.

Here's hoping. Speaking of which, I'm curious if they remake the intro and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. videos in 4K. I had to edit (reencode) all of them too, to position them on the center. Though one can get used to it, they seem a bit low-res...

My son tells me that the 1440 setting is the sweet spot between the screen look and graphics performance. Your video card will be a determining factor. I am happy with a 32" monitor and a larger size would not work on my desktop.
