RaduSamanc
God! I wish I had the time to tackle this myself. But, I simply don't. Using SafeWaters, GP_Moretta and the Marie Elena, I've sailed from the Imperial City Docks south past Leyawiin Reborn into Topal Bay, past Castle Dunkerlore, west ( with borders turned off ) around the coast of Elsweyr and Valenwood, and north up to Anvil, non stop. I've sailed far out on the open Sea until I could no longer see land. I once, returning to Topal Bay, passed it in a fog, and sailed completely around the coast of Black Marsh and up the Eastern coast of the continent by mistake. What does this mean? It means that there is enough stuff built into the game that a Sailing Overhaul is feasible. What I propose:And I expect OBSE will play a big roll in this. Possibly with functionality that hasn't been invented yet. All ships made sailable. All ships purchasable from owner. With enough persuasion and gold. All ships stealable. Effectively making you a pirate. Guards react to you on a stolen ship the same way as they do when they catch you with stolen loot.NPC and player can walk on the decks of ships while it is moving. Ren has a ship mod that can, apparently, do this.NPC actually use ships to move cargo from port to port. Possible using a path grid or waypoints of some type.Passage can be purchased on a ship.New skill seamanship for NPC's and Players. The higher the skill the better you navigate the ship.New Classes. Pirates, Seafarer, etc.Support for companion mods. Companions can sail the ship for you.Stowing away on a ship is possible with sneak.Ship sailing code made rock solid. No weirdness with falling through decks, etc.Compatible with Open Cities. If your going to have a sailing mod, you might as well go all the way.Support for mods. People can write quests that make use of sailing ships.Support for expansions. People can create new ships and add them.Support for COBL. Anybody up for this challenge? You gotta admit, it would be awesome!

GP_Moretta is basically a reskin of Jason1s Pilotable Pirate Ship. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3575
RaduSamanc
Yep, Safe Water: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3399 Bella Moretta: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4754Marie Elena: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5213 Watch out for the Marie Elena though. It's not compatible with Anvil Bay Expansion because it's included in that mod in the Anvil Harbor. Also, It's not compatible with Open Cities because Open Cities includes the Anvil Bay Expansion. Also, companions need to go below deck otherwise they fall through the ship when it starts moving. I've used the Marie Elena as home for a character for a long time. RaduSamanc
One of the most important mods, in my opinion, is Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina which expands the playable world into Elsweyr. Not another worldspace like many expansions, but part of the Tamriel worldspace. The only correct way to do it in my opinion. I was sailing to Leyawiin from Anvil, along the coast of Elsweyr, when I decided to drop anchor and have a look. Here are screen shots of a tropical beach on the coast of Elsweyr, way beyond where the normal borders end. Would be a shame if such potential were not exploited. The current sailing mods work, but they are finicky and temperamental and old. I'm certain with the new tools available, like OBSE, that sailing vessels could be perfected. Fiore1300
I'm interested in working on this. I pretty much just learned how to mod yesterday (created my first room!) using the Construction Set. I'm moving through the tutorials, but I'm at a pretty amateurish level, to say the least. HINT: I would be a great person to assign to tedious detail jobs. =) A Question Though: In addition to Elsweyr: the Deserts of Anequina, are there any finished/close to being finished mods that also do this type of extension? (as well as 1-2 for Morrowind?) I know that I myself am very interested in working on one for Blackmarsh ---by far probably one of the most interesting regions, in my opinion. I typically imagine giant snakes falling on the player from the trees, Monstrous plants, giant insect-arachnids-crustaceans. Anyway, I digress. So, yes, interested. Skilled? No. Although I am a good writer/idea generator, if it counts.
Skolhamarr
The age of the tail ship comes to OblivionThose of use who like playing the role in support of the empire. Imperial Legion, Naval force would be nice also with its own ranking system and quest against pirates. Empires total War is concept you want to bring to oblivion some what I would hope to see more than just a single decked ship. "If" the Empire is involved, one might find some sort of ship of the line. I personally would love to see First rate ship of the line sitting off the coast of Anvil brimming with cannon. Even with the lore factor, one could say with the help of alchemy cannons would be on those ships. Maybe even some crude cannons protecting the harbor of Anvil. http://www.totalwar.com/games/uploaded/screenshot_uploads/EmpireTotalWar_E3_screenshot_(19)_med.jpg http://www.totalwar.com/games/uploaded/screenshot_uploads/sovereign_med.jpg
PacificMorrowind
Also, companions need to go below deck otherwise they fall through the ship when it starts moving. That is not quite correct; I could easily make a mod like this (though the size of the whole thing is extreme but just having a dozen or so player useable ships with good collision between player, other npcs and the ship is easy) that they didn't fall through. However to have it really work good I would need to borrow some ones code for detecting collision between the ship and rocks/the ground; I'll look into that I believe I coule whip something like this up relatively quickly.Pacific Morrowind
RaduSamanc
PacificMorrowind: I was referring to the existing sailing ships like the Bella Moretta, Marie Elena, etc. However, Ren has a mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/search.php that apparently solves the falling through the ship problem. I could never get the mod to work, the ship simply would not show up at the docks but the problem was probably on my end as it has nearly 3000 downloads with a 9.92 rating. The way they solved collision was to attach a creature with no AI to the hull and then use the creatures collision detections. They also do this thing where the static version of the ship is swapped for a one-piece ship mesh when you activated the ship and then the player was anchored to the steering wheel, unable to move while the ship sailed. This wholesale swap is the cause of many problems, with oblivion ignoring the collision on the one-piece mesh, and weather abruptly switching. Although I don't have time to oversees this project, my advise would be to simply make one great flawless ship that worked exactly like I described on the first post. Make it available to the community to test. And in this way modularize all of the other stuff as well until the entire Overhaul was complete. In short: You should be able to walk on the deck while it is sailing.Companion should be able to walk on the deck while it is sailing.Companion should be able to sail the ship.Player should be able to sail the ship. You should be able to place items on deck, like lanterns, and not have them fly off as soon as the ship started moving. You should be able to climb into the crows nest while anchored and while sailing. You should be able by activating the hull like a treasure chest to load and unload cargo in the cargo hold, including mounts.
