problems with GECK

I'm having some trouble with the GECK.

At the moment I am trying to give an NPC character one of the custom hairs from the hair package. I load the target mod as active while loading the hair mod (and the master Fallout esm is automatically loaded as well).

Anytime I try to make a change to a file in the GECK, it does one of two things:

It gives me no error whatsoever. But if I go into the data folder the target file is now completely gone.

Or it gives me an error regarding a temp file and also stating that the target file has some saved data on it. Giving me the choice of basically ignoring the warning and doing nothing, or closing the GECK (and sometimes deleting the target file in the process as well)

Anyone have any experience with this issue?

If it matters I am currently operating under Windows 7 (64) and have GECK set to run under Vista service package 2 compatability and running under administrator authority.

I`m running GECK with Windows 7 (32 bit) without compatibility mode and there are no problems (until now ^^). What Win7 Version do you have? The Beta from January or the latest build? Is UAC disabled?

Would try to delete the two GECK-.ini files in My Games, update do Geck 1.5 (if necessary) and I would try to disable the compatibility mode.

- something writeprotected? -

Otherwise I'm clueless atm

I had the same problem. What you have to do is go to the Fallout 3 Data folder, right-click and click "properties". There will be a "security" tab, and under that you will see the list of users that can write files. Click on your username, go directly below that and check "full control" and you should be good. :P
