Fistandilius
Let me prephase this by saying I do not have any mods installed or mod managers. I've been playing stock New Vegas for only a week or so. Last night I bought and installed the DLC's. I clicked on the data menu to make sure they were installed and I noticed two things. Number one, all my .esm's are in alphabetical order. Number two there is no load order arrow like Skyrim has. I did a search and read something about the load order being the windows time stamp, but I changed the time stamp of my falloutnv.esm file to a month ago just to be on the safe side and it still did not change the load order. I am concerned I will have problems with the master file not being first in my load order. How can I fix this?
DrakeTheDragon
I don't know Fallout's engine, but if it's anything like Oblivion's, then the 'Data Files' from the launcher simply does not display load order at all.It always lists your plugins and masters in alphabetical order and is of no use for re-ordering or even viewing your real load order. You'll definitely need a manager for this.

If what you're theorizing is correct, then I should be ok, but it would be great to get confirmation from one of the thousands of people on here using New Vegas mods? JimboUK
You'll want to use something like FOMM or NMM when you get into modding proper, load order is very important and the thing that comes with the game is next to useless.

I understand that load order is important Jim. I have used mods with Skyrim. It's just that Skyrim lets you manipulate your load order from the data screen. FO: NV does not. I need to confirm if what Drake is theorizing is correct, that your data listing is not your load order because mine is listing them in alphabetical order and the new vegas .esm should be first in my load order. For what it's worth, the game has been playing fine for probably 15 hours or more since adding the DLC's.

You could try loading them up in FNVEdit and see what order they're in, either way sooner or later something will be in the wrong place and need to be moved, for that you will need a manager. I think Drake is correct, that probably isn't the order they're being loaded in, loading the DLCs before main esm would cause problems that you'd have noticed over 15 hours of play. luthienanarion
The launcher only started showing load order with Skyrim. It is indeed useless in previous games. Active plugins are loaded in chronological order by creation date, which mod managers change in order to sort them.
