thanateros
in a fluke of philosophical thought i wondered whether or not they should have had Morrowind's online register link you into a network of servers that without the player knowing it added updates to the game so that even in places you've already been something new gets added out of the blue. now how cool would that be to all of a sudden to wandering along some road and run into a species or NPC you never even knew existed. of course this would probably require a great deal of time and effort on the part of the game company but seriously, if bethseda were to do something like that and have an ongoing, growing game it would certainly add about a million things to do. even if you had to pay a monthly fee of like 5 bucks for packets of new quests, items, dungeons, and NPC's i would certainly be one of the first in line. just a thought. Rune
Well some people might not like stuff being downloaded without their consent. Something like that would be a very seductive place for hackers, they could attach a virus to a program and it would be sent to computers worldwide. There could also be server hang-ups and the user waiting to download something they don't even want. I think it's good now, how sites host mods to download and every once in a while Bethesda comes out with one of their own. I'm sure they are pretty busy with other projects to be able to continue making frequent updates like that for the game.
thanateros
hmm, the whole thing i think about registering online and having to pay for it would be consent enough, unless i'm completely off base usually end user licence agreements act as a contract, so if you don't want the service don't sign up for it. as for viruses, well you can get those just about anywhere these days. i probably risk more a chance of getting a trojan by openning emails then i have signing onto a morrowind server. hackers generally target a large population; game servers are not. also for the installed items etc. given that Bethseda has a reputation for producing rediculously detailed and fulfilling NPC's, items, quests and the like i really can't understand how anyone would complain about it, especially if you're paying for the service in the first place.
