Ranokoa
Recently in the last week i find myself getting periodically logged out when i leave for an hour or so rather than continuously being logged in like i always have had it set for the last 3 years. (i dont mean ive ALWAYS been logged in for 3 years, its just i normally leave myself logged in and it takes about 3 days before my cookies are deleted to log me out again) I dont really know why this is happening, i always keep my computer on even at night, i dont delete my cookies as often as im logged out, and honestly since ive been a member one of the only links ive never pressed is LogOut. It gets annoying when im trying to search through things, thinking im logged in, until i get detered by the fact i am not. Especially when i simply left to watch Brian get beat the crud out of by Stewie in Family Guy, or watch peter go less than straight in Family.. umm. Well that title is inappropriate for here. Point is i leave for a lil and i find myself autologged out, and this has never happened cept for the last week in all my time here. Can someone help me with what the problem is? Or is there a new system setting that logs inactive users out automatically? Be well, sleep well, fight well, live long.~Ranokoa
buddah
Check your browser settings, you may have had an update to your browser that changed your cookie retention duration. Which browser are you using?
Ranokoa
Im using internet explorer.. The number? IDK. I do NOT update my browser, or my windows, ever. I found out that, while somewhat good, invites a whole lot of trouble that i dont want to deal with. So, i have a good firewall, and a good antivir, thats all the protection i need. Seriously, after a couple years they have served me well. Im comfortable with the cababilities of my current browser and its settings, plus the speed of my computer is nice enough. Its been.. 3 years since i updated anything except my antivir... well, stuff MIGHT have gotten updated when it was in the shop to get extra ram and some maintaining.. but even so that was too long ago for anything to matter. This all started very recently, and the only possible time anything got updated was 5 months ago.
buddah
Not updating, is of course your decision. However with the new security measures that have been put in place, they may not sit well with outdated browsers or your current configuration settings. You have made your position on updating clear, so I can help you no further. I hope you get it sorted out on your own. Buddah
Ranokoa
You mean in order to stop this annoyance i have to update? Do you have a reasonable amount of certainty this will work? Im not asking for a garuntee, but if you believe it best i will reluctantly update. I suppose its worth the annoyance of being logged out to stop. HellKnightX88
I get the same issue with an updated XP SP3 with the latest non-beta/RC version of Mozilla. Cookies are kept till they expire.
SavageArtistry
I had a problem with that in Firefox, but it was ALL login data kept being reset as logged out for every site I frequent. It took me awhile to track it down but it turned out to be a corrupted file within Firefox that I had to delete and let auto-reset the next time I used FireFox. HellKnightX88
Rest of the logging data works just fine. Only issue I experienced is with this site :(
buddah
HelKnight I had the exact same issue, log out when I closed my browser.....and it was specific to this site. For firefox there are two files that become corrupted and cause this issue. I had it and it took some time to track down the culprit and the file path is: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\9sqdotu7.default In side there is this file: cookies.sqlite and this one if it exists. cookies.txt Delete it and it will create a new one for firefox cookies. Since I use firefox almost exclusively for downloading here and everywhere, signing in constantly was a major PITA.

Find out what version of IE you are using and then go to the MS forums and search for log in cookie problems. The problem may have already been addressed by someone on their forums or from Microsoft. I have never been a great fan of IE, and have been using mozilla or firefox as my default browser for quite some time. If you let me know what version of IE you are using.....I can put it on one of my laptops and spend some time in it to see if I can isolate which file may have gotten corrupted, it's exact location and possible fixes. it will probably be one specific to cookies.....like the one in firefox. The reason most of us have more than one browser installed is it makes determining whether the issue is specific to a given browser, the computer or a possible issue with the site. I have MSN9, Firefox, IE8, Google Chrome, Browzar and Opera on this rig, and a couple of lesser known ones designed for specialty sites....that can be used for general use as well.
