editing .dds doesn't have any effect

Hi!

I edit the .dds files i want to with GIMP and a .dds-viewer plugin. I'd like to add tattoos (http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18763) to a certain race (cute elves). The main mod of cute elves doesn't have a "body folder", but with the enhanced skin for cute elves (http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24469) i get this folder with a "ElfBody.dds". If I open it i see the textures of the character ingame, but if i change it (for example adding a tattoo), save it and start the game, there is no tattoo on my character (not even on an another one).

Maybe I'm doing something wrong editing it, or this .dds file doesn't get loaded (if that's the case, how can i prove it?).

I hope that you can help me!

 That's a bit strange... I know no reason why the foot.dds should save the bodytextures. What does the body.dds do then? Adding a new basis-texture to the skin? Or are only the "body changes" saves in the foot.dds?

Many OB body replacers use foot texture for wrapping whole body, to preserve compatibility with vanilla body-based clothes/armor. So, if your female body replacer is HGEC, and when your character is in birthday suit( :whistling: ) or in HGEC clothing item, your character skin texture is footfemale.dds. However, when your character wears some clothes for vanilla items, the skin textures showing will be upperbodyfemale.dds and legfemale.dds, if there're any for the race.

A ok, thanks for the information

But I've got only body.dds, ears.dds, ears_n.dds, face.dds, hand.dds

But I've got one more question:

Is there any kind of "tutorial" for .dds texture files? Sometimes they are a bit confusing to me

But :thanks: anyway!!!
