I've read a few rules, I always am careful when I post here.

I d make a mistake every once in a while, because not every rule is written. :)

The rules are a guideline. So long as you follow most of them, and observe some ability to control your behavior and conduct toward the staff, the forum, and other members, there shouldn't be any problems. The problem is not the rules, or those people who don't read them, but those who don't ask themselves what is, and is not appropriate before hitting "Add reply". Learn to filter yourself, and treat others as they can tolerate being treated*, and you'll rarely have any problem.

Forums which actually use Gestapo tactics, or cannot themselves follow their own rules don't keep their members, so are only hurting themselves. There are some forums out there where you get banned for even asking a simple question about the community, or disagreeing with some post a long standing member made. All in all, TESN staff is probably one of the most honest and responsible I have seen. They work hard, and keep this community running amidst a sea of trolls and haters. And I'm not just saying that.

We are all human, we are all guilty of occasionally letting disagreements and arguments get the better of us. The important part is if we can still be reasonable and in control during those disagreements, or if we can still be a positive part of the community without those disagreements. Most of those people who are banned for flaming are people who have not done much else other than flame. This is not to say that being a good boy/girl will keep you from being banned later, but rather that the greater your hostility toward other members, as opposed to your participation, the more likely you will get warned/banned. Essentially, keep it civil, keep it meaningful to others, and become a positive part in the community, and there should be no reason to ban you.

*Notice I did not say "as you, yourself, would like to be treated". Some people hate themselves, or enjoy when conflict is directed toward them, so the old adage is no longer valid, atleast online. I find that responding in a way which gets the point across, but does not cause too much offense, although sometimes hard to pull off, tends to be the best way to respond... If only because people (and mods) reading it can laugh silently in agreement.

"as you, yourself, would like to be treated"

just use kant's categorical imperative instead ;)

doesnt just limit the behavior to how oneself would like to be treated but to a point where every action must be run through an equation which must result in the ongoing prevailance of mankind...

ask yourself, if mankind could survive forever if every other human would do/say the same thing...
