I saw the notification in Vortex about upgrading to the new version, but the setup task consistently fails - I think trying to uninstall the old version. After a minute or so, it suggests stopping "Vortex" and retrying - but the problem with that is that the only "Vortex" that is running is the setup program itself. I then tried manually downloading and reinstalling Vortex while "Vortex" wasn't running - the exact same thing happened. If I kill "Vortex/setup" with the Task Manager, a pop-up appears that says it will update Vortex after it's closed - but that never works either and after a minute yeilds this error pop-up: (which this form won't let me include, it just says to try it again manually)

So what to do? I'm afraid if I manually uninstall Vortex, all the stuff to manage the mods I already have applied will get wipped out...

Please note, Vortex is not installed on my C-drive, it's in a separate directory on another drive.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Not to worry. Uninstalling Vortex does not touch your managed games settings. By default managed game settings are stored in AppData on your C: drive. They are never stored in your program installation directory.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Vortex several times without doing any harm to my managed games settings.

Having said this, I do not know if uninstalling and reinstalling Vortex will solve your problem. However, I do know that this process will net wipe out your settings.

uninstall/reinstall is pretty straightforward.

problems come when people remove one version and replace it with an older version, although that doesn't seem to be as prevalent these days.

having said that, based off my last two upgrades (both unintentional), actually upgrading vortex is a complete bleeding lottery these days as the code quality seems to have dropped off a cliff.
