SYLiam
Hey, So I'm starting my second character after not playing Fallout 3 for a good month or two, and I'm planning to make it a 'fun' character (whereas my original character is the serious one that I'll bother less about with his skills). I've looked around and I already know to put my Intelligence to 9 and run to Rivet City to get the Intelligence Bobblehead so I get the 28 skill points per level (after getting the Educated perk which ofcourse gives +3 extra skill points per level), and I'm trying to calculate how to properly lay them out to maximise my skills. Now, if you forget about Broken Steel for a minute and think about 20 being the level cap (just to make this whole thing easier, I'll talk about 30 in a moment), if you had your skills all at 40, and collect ALL of the Skill Books and Bobbleheads, you could potentially end up with every stat maxed by level 11 (with the Comprehension perk at level 5 you'd get double the skill points for each book, and since there's 25 books of each skill, that'd give you 50 points after collecting them all and obviously the +10 bonus for each bobblehead) Since now the level cap has been raised to 30, what would the minimum number to get in each skill before looking for the books and bobbleheads? (40 being the minimum if level 20 was the cap, but obviously I can use more now) Hope that makes sense, it's quite a bit to read! Thanks!
xaechireon
Though I haven't really bothered to try, I'm under the impression that by randomly stumbling over any books and bobbleheads and maximum skill points/level, all your skills will probably be 80+ before you're level 30 anyway. laffindude
High intelligence is a waste, and so is educated. Comprehension + skill books is more than enough to maximize all your skills. You still only need to get to 40 to maximize your skills. ((40-10)*13-45)/30. You only need to get 11.5 skill points per level to max your skills, including tagged skills but not including perk bonuses. Don't waste points on perks that gives you any skill points. It isn't needed. If you truly want a perfect character. You want to wait until level 30 before getting the SPECIAL bobble heads. Almost perfect perk + bobbleheads = perfect SPECIAL stats. The character will suck at lower levels, until you find enough skill books and bobbleheads.
VerbalEarthworm
the only thing i can add is this; Yew's Bear Charm also gives +10 Speech like the Bobblehead, so you only need to get Speech to 30. @laffindude: can we have a new sum please? :)
laffindude
That is a rough estimate. It still doesn't include the bonus you get from SPECIAL stats. That is another 325 points (with 10 in all stats from almost perfect+bobblehead). Lets start from the beginning:1300 total skills-650 skillbooks-325 SPECIAL maxed-130 bobblehead-45 tagged-26 (2*13. base figure for skills )-10 from yew's bear_______114/30 levels = <4 points per skill level. I think I am missing something, but doesn't matter anyways since this is below the minimum you get per level. Using 4 in Intelligence (to get comprehension) leaves a huge margin of safety that you don't even need the bobbleheads to max the skills.
VerbalEarthworm
cheers :) i think your sums show just exactly how easy it is to max post-BrokenSteel, and even in the vanilla game there is a book respawn exploit which (if you can be bothered) allows zero spending of skill points on Science and BigGuns in order to max them. SYLiam
Thanks very much for the replies! For anyone else wanting to do this, there's a guide here which has three builds for maxing out your stats, one is pre-Broken Steel, and the other two are post-Broken Steel! overload1977
if you do your skills just right you can get them all to 100 without cheating but just takes some time :)
