Need some help with finding a decent modeling program/tutorial.

I have a desire to learn how to model, but as I am new to this field completely, it's hard to find a decent guide to help me get started. I have tried messing with Blender and looking over several tutorials for it, but none have seemed to have given me any progress. Are there any other modeling programs that are simpler to use? I've heard of 3dsMax and Maya, but I don't know how overwhelming they are in comparison to Blender, let alone if there are any tutorials for them for importing models into Oblivion. I apologize if this is in the wrong section or if this has been asked alot, but I'm just tired of cheering and routing others from the sidelines and doing nothing for everyone in return. I'd like to actually create a piece of 3D art I can call my own, yet everyone can enjoy. If anyone can assist me in finding a suitable program to use OR a more "straight to the point", yet easy to comprehend tutorial for Blender, it would be greatly appreciated.

There are other easier-to-learn (and free) modeling progs (Wings, for example, or Metasequoia LE), but Blender is the only one that can work with .nif files that I know of, so you should really perservere with that, unless you've the cash to spend on 3DMax or Maya which are humongously expensive. Have you checked out all of the tutorials for Blender? Tried this one? >

Wings is a good place to start as well, but it is not as fully featured as the others.

I just started with it a few days ago.

It is menu driven and has a slightly lower learning curve that Blender. I only done a few UV remaps so far.

You still need the know what all the terms mean though.

If you a starting with something in the game, or another mod, then you

need to export an obj file from NifSkope.

You have to have a mesh that is a "shape" , not a "strip". If the mesh is a strip

then you just click on "triangulate" in the mesh tab to convert to "shape".

Then you open Wings an Import the obj. When you finish playing with the mesh

you Export the obj out again, and then import it back with Nifskope.
