I'm so glad there are good people working on this. It seems so hugely over-complicated.

 

I'm only dipping my toes in to make some geo for things i think the ship-builder needs (not textures etc.. just geo) - I exported the Deimos wing component (after MUCH head-bashing) and got it into Blender (thankfully there's a plugin for that!) and i noticed that such a seemingly simple part had over 50k verts. I couldn't believe it.

 

There must be reasoning i'm not aware of for such a vastly bulky vert count, but i would have expected Bethesda to fake most of the very minor detail with height maps. But even straight-up in the geo? 50k+ still seems crazy.

It's no wonder the game can struggle with large ship builds.

Anything i make is going to be a lot lighter than that.

I would like to read that tutorial I keep seeing mentioned or pick your brain on how to incorporate your findings with my own mod. Especially since I plan to do fuel and cargo next, now that I figured out the engines.
