Knockout Framework (if you can keep it stable) is currently the most obvious alternative to killing in the game. If Maniacs and Morons insist on attacking your settlements, so be it; still, the mod should be taken into account as a means to end threats from Raider leaders, Super Mutant clusters, etc. (An exile mechanic to drive away infestations of future settlements or substitute for killing?)

 

Two quest targets can already be Knockout instead of killing, Boston After Dark, and Conrad Kellogg at the end of Reunions. (Praise to Havenoammo for those!) More could be done, however. The Concord Raiders (both outside and inside the Museum of Freedom), those two thugs in the effort to man up Travis... Yeah, you can knock them out but the game currently reacts as if you'd killed them. This is meant to be a brawl, the only one programmed in the entire game.
