Comradesoldat
Hello everyone, So, I've been interested in Modding this game for some time, and well, to be quite frank, I don't know what exactly I would need to mod. I've heard a lot of different programs being needed, however I have no real idea what's needed, or where to find it. Anyone willing to lend me a hand? Also, what would probably be an easy item to make/mod to get the hand of this? (just your opinion) Any help is Appreciated
ArekkusuStorm
It really depends on what you want to do since 'modding' is such a general term. There is also modding used to describe adding mods to your game. Always throws me off. But since you mentioned MAKING, do you want to fiddle around with existing weapons/clothing/etc, create your own models, try your hand at texturing, make a quest/adventure? GECK is one program you'll need regardless. Make sure you get the NV and not the Fallout 3 one. Edited January 16, 2014 by ArekkusuStorm
Comradesoldat
Thanks mate; and yeah, I probably should of been abit clearer I'd like to create my own models, texture those models and make them useable ingame (from things like clothing to Guns or even small random items. Polyfemus
All I can say is you'll need to be self-motivated and have the spare time. The resources are out there but sometimes it takes a while to know how to put it all together. I can only suggest starting off with the tutorials from the official GECK wiki. That's what I did. And after that I experimented with a lot of scripts and personal mods to test what can/can't be done with scripting and such. And then for 3d modeling I started off with the most basic of tutorials. I can also link you to this youtube channel of a professional 3d modeller who has done a lot of custom weapons for New Vegas. I learned how to uvunwrap from his videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/Arenovalis/videos These videos are probably only after you're familiar with basic 3d modelling and navigating the program(s).
