exanimis
I decided to try to make some clothing/armor. This is my first serious attempt and I have the mesh the way I want it. I UV mapped it and did the gimp thing to create the textures. From the Gimp, I saven the textures as png files and converted them to dds with DDS converter. Here is the top in blender with the texture appliedhttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/BlendHelp/gothtop.jpg and again in Nifskopehttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/BlendHelp/gothtopNIF.jpg When I try it in game I start having problems. Here you can see that the textures are too shiny. Notice that two of the belts are missing near the navel.http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/BlendHelp/ScreenShot79.jpg The top has all the belts in game but it is still too shiny when I take ithttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/BlendHelp/ScreenShot78.jpg and when I wear ithttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/BlendHelp/ScreenShot80.jpg I have a feeling that it has something to do with Nifskope. I've had this problem before but still don't understand what it is I am supposed to be doing.
Mavrosh
Shiny textures appear with the normal map, you might want to create a different normal map. A normal map does not show up in Blender, this is why it looks different in Blender than it does in game.
BossDweebe
You can click on the material property icon in NifSkope to bring up a window thatadjust specular and emissive color. push the dot to the far left on both, and the slider for glossiness to the far right for the least shine. It still depends some on your normal map as Mavrosh said. When you load your texture don't load mip maps. For a less glossy normal map use 000000 when doing the colour to alpha.I think the DX5n compression is better too. (I have only just noticed this sohave only just started using it).
exanimis
Kudos BossDweebe and Mavrosh. That seems to have solved my problem. I need to work with it a while to figure out what works best but the shiny shirt was gone with my first try. Thank you both.
Mavrosh
You are welcome! Creating normal mapping gets better with every time you do it as you get used to all the settings... I remember that my first ones were shiny as well... If you are up to more detailed textures in the future always make sure to keep a copy of the psd file with all its layers because then you can create normal maps for every layer each with different settings and merge them later on. This guarantuees high quality normal mapping. ;)
