Help me save my love for Oblivion!

My story is horrible.

I love the idea behind Oblivion and I've spent probably at least 300 hours on the game, but not once have I finished it. This was my attempts:

1) Played Vanilla. Got to like level 18 mage/thief and I LOVED doing all the deep quests. All the Highwaymen in Glass Armor were pissing me off. Then I managed to create a full Chameleon clothing set, after which I was invisible all the time. The game lost its taste after that very quickly (I guess I was over-powered) and I stopped playing. I never finished it (only closed like 5 gates)

2) When OOO 1.31 was around, I decided to try it. I started playing but the game quickly got too time-consuming, as I had to run away from most battles (with low level char) and I played Mage so I spent half the time leveling my magic skills, instead of actually playing and using them. I quickly lost interest.

3) 2 weeks ago I was sick and decided to give Oblivion another try. I just bought Radeon 4875 or something with 1 GB DDR5 and that was another reason to try :). I found out about FCOM and I spent more than a full day setting up all the required mods and a bunch of addons. Go everything working in perfect harmony without any conflicts. I was SOO excited to play.

First I started with Mage/Thief char. Very quickly I realized i'm spending too much time buffing myself with spells and my only combat techique is to conjur up scamps and run away. I ended up doing same thing as last time - spending most time leveling magic skills (casting Heal on self 1000 times). I didn't enjoy this. After I got to level 9, I couldn't take it anymore.

4) I decided to try Orc Warrior char and I LOVED it at first. This is what I want the whole game to play like. The starting dungeon and Alleyid ruins right outside the starting location (where you get Geomancy) was most fun I ever had. I went level 1-> 4 in that dungeon, and the whole thing was so enjoyable. All the battles were challenging but not too much. Last few "boss" battles - I had to save/reload a few times. Hitting someone with my War Hammer always did some noticeable damage.

The problems started once I left the Imperial City and went to any dungeons that weren't newbie level. All of a sudden my Warrior was worthless and my war hammer did no damage to anybody. Mages dressed in nothing but a robe suffered no noticable damage when I power-hit them with my 60 pound warhammer. This pissed me off and I stopped playing immediately.

I want to give Oblivion another try and maybe actually finish the game this time. I mean I already beat Fallout 3...

Can you guys recommend some good mods that would match my style of play? What I'm looking for, I guess, is vanilla-style leveled creatures (maybe items too?) but with caps, so no lvl 30 goblins or highwaymen. Also, there was a mod that simply multiplied the number of enemies you fight, but I'm not sure how stable that is.

I want to be able to go to any Dungeon and have an enjoyable experience. I want some dungeons to eventually become too easy, but I don't want any dungeouns to be too hard. I guess this means a possibility of lvl 2 Arena champions, but so what...

Recommendations? Thanks...

1.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul

Basically it caps the levels of those low shitty level guys. Rats arent going to be level 20 anymore. It also adds static enemy spawns all over Cyrodil. This will make the game challenging in some instances, you won't be wanting to wander into the wilderness unarmed, you would most likely die.

2.

Deadly Reflexes, this will add a level of intensity to Oblivion with unique combat moves, finishers, cutting of peopels heads, cutting off their wrists, etc...

3.

All Plus 5 Attributes or something like that basically removes the complications of the Oblivion leveling system. Instead of getting +1 +2 +3 +4 or +5 you always get plus 5 for an attribute that you leveld a skill that it governs. To make it seem as though I am not as strong I ticked the difficulty slider 10-15 spaces to the right. Although you may want to not do this since you might install OOO and Deadly Reflexes.

4. Theives aresenal adds a new level of playability and uniqueness into oblivion. Ever felt like distracting a gaurd with a noise only for him to be knocked out by a special gas? Get this.

5. Vaults of Cyrodil is the perfect companion to Theives Arsenal. It adds vaults to every castle in cyrodil and every store in the IC. It is impossible to lockpick the vault doors, you need a key you pickpocket from the Vault Gaurd and you CAN get a disguise for that specific cities vault.

You may want to decrease the difficulty with Deadly Reflexes AND OOO installed. Although you may not if you install the +5 attributes as well.

As I said in the original email, OOO has not really worked for me.

As level 4 Orc warrior, it was pleasant to see Goblins fall from 1-2 well-placed warhammer hits. Then I take the same warrhammer to a dungeon, and I'm bashing this wizard over his naked head with "power hits" and he's not blocking or anything, and his health depletes ever so slightly...

This is what I hate... I want the game to be realistic and having higher skill level/strength should make it so that I have more special moves/etc when it comes to using the skill. It shouldn't mean that because I'm journeyman blunt with 60 strength, the wizard's head all of a sudden becomes invincible because he's level 20 with 400 HP. It kills immerision when I bash him 20 times on his open head with him in the corner, while he does more damage to me with a dagger (while I'm wearing full steel armor)

OOO may have placed caps on rats and bandits, but any kind of realism is gone for low level char.

For that matter, I downloaded the "leveler's cheat" and leveled my char to level 10, with strength 100 and 75 in Blunt. Then I went to memorial cave outside the imperial city, where "Vampire Initiates" wearing robes were pretty much immune to my power strikes to their naked heads. Oh and I had a magical weapon with 20 frost damage.

So what's the idea, I grind thru 10 levels and I'm maxed out strength orc with magical warrhammer, but my hits hardly do any damage, because my enemy has 1000 HP and his head becomes invincible? Please...

If at first you cannot beat them, bring more people!

You liked the orc combat dude right? Swing a sword or hammer or stuff and bash people's heads in.

Once you got to the mages and the high level dudes you had to run and stuff seemed impossible.

I'd say, get a companion. Baddy is a nice one with quests and stuff. Best only used when starting a new game due to the way the quests trigger. I tried on a level 70 char and it bugs out a little.

Other companions include valeria 2.0 (you can pick her class) or Viconia Chapter 1 or Neeshka.

CM partners are an option but they tend to be cannon fodder unless you're rich or use specialised ones like my Basement cats =P

Find some mods that are low-level friendly. I like The Elder Council. Join the legion and patrol the roads. Use Companion share and recruit to bring some legion soldiers with you. They'll probably die but that's ok.

You get a "free" armour set. It won't stay good for long but it is better than nothing.

More stuff:

- Get ooo, or FCOM, but get something like this

- Get a combat mod, Adrenaline fueled combat 2 is pretty good and doesn't change too much stuff.

- If you go close quarters combat, you need a way to heal. Spamming a spell isn't what I'd call a good way to heal. Screw restoration and get alchemy instead. It levels fast and you get cheap potions.

- USE POISON. Poison is so awesome. Turn off the poison confirmation box though.

Though, just because you're an orc with a warhammer doesn't mean everyone should just die for you.

Maybe deadly reflex with higher weapon damage will help. LAst time I used it, fights were over pretty fast, but you'll probably pretty fast too.

I'd suggest some shield enchantments.

I saw videos from unnecessary violence and it looks horrible. Does it change the mechanics in such way that a head protected by a steel helmet will take minimal damage from a dagger, whereas an unprotected head will pop from one hit with a warhammer? That's what I'm looking for. Realism, not some numbers game.

adrenaline oblivion, it adds spawn numbers, so instead of 3 zombies you get 9. but the creatures are always the same, no leveling, so you kill a zombie with a warhammer at level 2, you can do it again at level 30. but I reccommend a companion mod and hire you some bodygaurds.
