Random exterior CTDs: Mod Conflict?

So I'm experiencing constant (~every 5 minutes) CTDs when I'm exploring outside. As usual, the Papyrus logs are useless - a lot of mod spam but no errors when the crash happened. If i disable SafetyLoad, I freeze instead of crashing. I don't notice the crash in any particular location; it seems to occur everywhere outside (although perhaps at varying frequencies).

 

My mod list is preposterously big (200+ plugins), but my system should be able to handle it, as I get a steady 55-60 FPS up till the moment it crashes. In Skyrim Performance Manager my RAM usage doesn't go over 1GB when it crashes so that shouldn't be the problem. GPU load and VRAM are pretty much always maxed out, so again I doubt that's the problem since nothing changed before the crash. CPU load tends to be lower.

 

Naturally, I suspect that this results from a mod conflict, but due to mod dependencies and the random nature of the crashes it's extremely hard to debug. I always run BOSS (and ReProccer) whenever I make a mod change, and it hasn't given me any major warnings.

 

I know it's unsurprising that I'm crashing with so many mods installed, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a conflict that might be causing this issue.

 

Underneath is any information that might be the least bit useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Side note: I'm also getting occasional crashes (always CTD regardless of SafetyLoad, no errors in log) when opening containers or viewing map/magicmenu/inventory/journal. I suspect this issue arises from a different conflict. I've been experiencing it less lately so it may be fixed, though I doubt it.

1) download TES5Edit from the link in the BOSS log, follow the instruction on the same page, and clean all plugins flagged by BOSS as containing 'dirty edits', unless the BOSS log specifically states that the mod's 'dirty edits' does not need to be cleaned.

 

2) go through the BOSS log carefully, line by line, and look for any error messages, such as

As the readme for both mod states, you should use one of the plugins, not all of them. Go through the entirely log and make sure you attend to all of the error messages.

3) Some of your ini settings have 'absurdly high' values, for example:

The default game ini settings are optimized for 'stability.' Many ini tweak guides floating around the interwebs suggest ini tweaks intended to improve 'performance' or address trivial graphic glitches like 'distant LOD pop-ins', but do so at the expense of 'stability.' I recommend you delete your existing ini files, and let the game generate new ones, so the ini settings will revert back to default game values. You can re-add ini non-performance or graphics related ini settings like disabling the intro video, but do not add anything else, including messing with Papyrus memory allocation. Also, when not bug tracking or troubleshooting, Papyrus logging should be disabled.

I've tried deactivating some of the cloaks plugins (even uninstalling the mods altogether) with no effect on the crashes. Although the values for fMeshLODLevel2FadeTreeDistance and fMeshLODLevel1FadeTreeDistance are indeed increased, the other ones are in fact (I believe, based on looking at backups) the defaults for ultra settings. Either way, I just tried with new inis to no avail.

 

I had been too afraid to clean any plugins aside from the vanilla masters, but I'll try that out and see if that helps.

EDIT: Just did a full reset on my inis, and the problem may be fixed (only playtested for ~5 min, so still have to confirm). I had been testing from a couple backups I made a while ago, but I might have made changes before then. If it really is fixed, I can't thank you enough.

Update:

After playing for ~2 hours with a new ini (i re-added a few tweaks) and experiencing only one crash - which was in a city so different issue - I'm convinced the problem is fixed. Not only is the game stable now, but I realize that the custom ini was messing up my ENB lighting, as the game looks WAY better now. Again, thank you so much!
