Deleted8853372User
Hi...All. Kinda got back into Skyrim. Last time I played it was when it first came out on the xbox. Started to get back into it again via Steam. Updated my Motherboard (X79) and Memory (16GB) and CPU (i7 3930k 6Core). The GPU was on the to-do list. My Current old 460 cant handle it any more.Prices for the older 680 are stupid and water blocks hard to find.... Spent the last week reading lots...and still undecided. I am aware of the 3.1 limit with Skyrim. Hoping to run a few nice mods and ENB. Wanted to hear from others that may have the same GPU's or recommendations. The Choices appears to be: ( oh and they will be watercooled...) EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual Classified Hydro Copper - (4GB but a tad slower that the 780. Slightly Cheaper in Price) Part Number: 04G-P4-3779-KR1165MHz Base Clock1215MHz Boost Clock149.1GT/s Texture Fill Rate4096MB GDDR5 Memory7010MHz Memory Clock224.32GB/s Memory Bandwidth EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Dual Classified Hydro Copper - (3GB but better performance but is it worth the extra £50-70 plus 1GB less memory)Part Number: 03G-P4-3789-KR993MHz Base Clock1046MHz Boost Clock190.6GT/s Texture Fill Rate3072MB GDDR5 Memory6008MHz Memory Clock288.38GB/s Memory Bandwidth Radeon R9 290X 4GB - (4GB Reviews seem to say it matches and can beat the 780. Cheaper too...But I hear graphics are tainted on Skyrim?...Processors 2,816 (as most mods/enb are based on Nvidia configurations?) GPU Clock/Boost (MHz) up to 1,000Shader Clock/Boost (MHz) up to 1,000Memory Clock (MHz) 5,000Max bandwidth (GB/s) 320 Would the 4GB cards make all the difference between the system crashing if I was to close to the 3.1 limit?. Any people out there noticed a difference between the NVidia and the AMD setups (Tend to go Nvidia myself...)? Basically I liked to get some decent mods. Kill Dragons and look at some cheeky cleavage and at the same time ruin my life playing Skyrim :) Any Advice/recommendations would greatly be appreciated. Think I have over done it with research - so looking for feedback from people who have the hardware already. Other games not really an issue. May have a crack BF4... but Skyrim rocks. Mods and looking good is the priority :) Respect, Kingkenny
ripple
I don't want to bash AMD, but the fact is, every ATI/AMD card I've had have given me no end of grief. The major problem is that AMD driver support is crap in comparison to nvidia. That's been my experience, anyway. AMD GPU might themselves be solid competitors, but the drivers are not. So keep that in mind when deciding... Edited January 19, 2014 by ripple

Deleted8853372User
Hi Again.. Can anybody else offer any information regarding the 770 or the 780? Thanks :)
HeyYou
The 780 is, by the numbers, a higher performance card, whether you will actually see that difference in game or not, is an entirely separate question. The 3.1gb memory limit is a hard cap, doesn't matter how much you have, the game simply can't play with any more, simply because of the way it is coded.
