What? Could you please explain what you mean? Your post doesn't seem very clear...

What do you want help with?

ummm. how is changing it to armor supposed to change color? i am not exactly following. Maybe you could explain what kind of weapon, (crossbow, spear, axe one handed, short sword, blunt one handed. etc.) and more specifically which mesh, ( nordic broadsword, ebony spear, huntsman axe, etc.) is it a morrowind mesh, tribunal, bloodmoon, or from a mod?

NIFtexture can reassign textures. the morrowind meshes use BMP textures and Tribunal and bloodmoon meshes use DDS textures so you'll need photoshop or gimp with a dds plugin or use a dds converter. Some meshes from mods won't work in niftexture, you have to use a hex editor or a 3D modelling program to retexture. ( milkshape or 3DStudio MAX 3, 4 , or 5 )

i suppose what i'm saying is you can't recolor objects with the construction set, you have to make a new mesh, (NIF file). and assign the new textures. And then add the object to the CS and save as a new ESP.

How i do it is I copy the mesh (NIF) from the CS CD to a new directory on my HD and rename it, then i open it with Niftexture, it will list all the textures assigned to that mesh. then i copy those textures to that new directory and rename them. Open them with a paint program and make changes. to recolor i set my brush to Hue and/or saturation and change the color where i want. Then i open the mesh with niftexture and reassign the textures to my new ones, in that directory. Then i move the NIF to the mesh directory ( program files/ bethesda/ morrowind/ data files/ meshes) and the the textures to the textures folder (program files/ bethesda/ morrowind/ data files/ textures). This way the mesh will be able to find the textures,

Now i open the CS and select the appropriate tab in the object menu, and right click and then new object. Click on ADD ART FILE then select your new mesh and set the stats, and name the object, if you don't name the object it will be named the name of the mesh, (unless theres already and object with that name)

OR if you want the same stats but just another color, say for example the iron broadsword, open the iron broadsword, rename the object ID, add art file to your new mesh, and then save, it will ask you to make a new object , click yes, and you have a new sword with identical stats but a new mesh.

oh and you might want to make a new icon heres a link to a tutorial on making a an icon with GIMP.

that wasn't exactly a step by step but abbrevieated i hope it helps clear up some confusion, maybe even more confusing now i hope not.
