Traeke
Hey I've had an issue with vortex for awhile now where it tried updating but couldn't it only installed halfway and said "Vortex cannot be closed. please close it manually and click Retry to continue" I've tried reinstalling vortex completely but no luck then i tried poking around in taskManager and trying admin mode but can't find a solution, I've looked around online for anyone with the same issues but can only find this* reddit post but it looks to be locked before an answear could be posted. (see posted image for refreance). * Note that i might take awhile to answear cause i don't stay very updated on this forum.
HellFreezer
Closing a hung program might be as easy as clicking the corner X of the window. But to be sure, open Task Manager and look at the list of running programs and make sure it is not listed. If if is listed, it is still in memory even if it is not running. Just select highlight it in list, right-click on it for a pop-open menu and click select END TASK in the menu. That will stop and flush from working RAM any program task that was in memory. LiveMarie
Hi, I know this is half a year later, but did you ever work out how to fix this issue? It just happened to me when I tried to update to the newest version. I haven't found a fix on the net yet, and hope you have some insight.
vortexposer
Check your Task Manager for an open Vortex process.
Jenmacha
Yeah, it's happening to me, too. (And yes, I've checked Task Manager.) It's closing the Vortex app fine. As far as I can tell, it seems to think the installer itself is a Vortex app, which means, of course, that ending that process in Task Manager also kills the installation. I'm using a PC with Windows 10.

Jenmacha
Restarting the PC did the trick. At least it was an easy fix.
Solution strongkiller12 Posted August 19 Solution Share Posted August 19 Posting for anyone who gets this error in the future. Step One: Close Vortex in Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+ESC) Step Two: Navigate to C:\Users\<yourUserhere>\AppData\Local\vortex-updater\pending. Step Three: Inside C:\Users\<yourUserhere>\AppData\Local\vortex-updater\pending find vortex-setup-x.xx.x.exe and Right-Click, run as Administrator. In my case it was vortex-setup-1.12.3.exe. Step Four: Go through the installation process, and then you're done.

musashironinit
Apparently not even vortex uses techs to help nowadays. So here's a workaround 1-Restart your pc 2-find the folder where Vortex is installed 3-Delete everything inside that folder but not the subfolders 4-Download the vortex update or use mthe already downloaded updated vortex DONE
