manchuquera Posted December 10, 2023 Share Posted December 10, 2023 Been playing the game for several years but just recently opening in game consule to activate God mode for example I press tilde key game screen freezes pointer appears but no dialogue box so unable to type an instruction. press key again and it reverts back to the game. Have tried all the other possible keys such as ' for the English keyboard and I have uninstalled and re-installed Fallout 4 uninstalled and re-installed Steam but nothing seems to work. Skyrim still OK as is Fallout 3 so can anyone of you very knowledgeable people point out my stupidity please? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
iqoniq Posted December 13, 2023 Share Posted December 13, 2023 You're not playing in survival mode with a mod that allows mods are you? There's one that restores the console window ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26163 ) and has it borked for some reason? What happens if you try and open the window and type TM (toggle menu - it can also hide the console window)? Open the window, and wait until the game freezes and the cursor appears. Without clicking anything else, just press T, M and then return and see if the window reappears. I've never known toggle menu to be persistent across saves (I use it for screenshots a lot), although I tend to ALT+F4 out without a save. Having said that, TM also kills most of the UI so I guess it would be noticeable. If the menu comes back when you've done that, exit out (with a save) and reload and see if it still happens. If it does then I'd guess there's a mod playing up, glitching out or possibly even doing it by design. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Certain game menus are coded to pause the game when they're added to the active manu stack. If your game "freezes" then it seems like the menu is actually opened but the visuals are broken. (The console command "qqq" quits the game instantly, you can use it to test whether the console receives input or not). The vanilla menu is a flash file: Console.swf, located in the archive ..\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Fallout4 - Interface.ba2. If you see this file in ..\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Interface (assuming this folder exists as it's not necssary), then it's most certainly a modified version of the console menu file because the vanilla one is in the .ba2 archive. Try renaming or moving this .swf file and open the game to see if it worked. Also, if you're playing on Survival difficulty, change it to make debugging easier.
