MrUncreated
I've been curious about this since the game launched. I would find threads in various places discussing and theorizing about "level locking", and each time I come back to the game I search for info about "level locking" and find the same old threads, but not much new, and never a list. Not even on the wikis which list all the Editor IDs of encounter zones, but that's all. So, I'm wondering if anyone has ever come across such information before (and if so, could you please link it?)... Aside from that, here's a conflicting bit of info out there about this, and I'm wondering if anyone knows the real answer: Only interior encounter zones "level lock," and exterior encounter zones continually reset until they reach their level cap. <- Not sure if this is true, but it would be nice. In my last game I was around level 176 or so. But I still couldn't be sure if I entered a location too early. All I remember is that some enemies (usually random encounter triggers, the repeatable kind) would spawn at my level, regardless of zone. And this is how I got my best gear. I never got to farm legendary gear in the recommended way (loot locking in places like Gunner Plaza or National Guard Training Yard, to name a few) because I think I entered those places too early, because I didn't know the level cap of the interiors. So even if I knew only interior min/max leveled zones, that would be better than knowing nothing. So if anyone has this info I would greatly appreciate it. LarannKiar
If you open FO4Edit >> Fallout4.esm >> Encounter Zone >> ConcordMuseumZone [ECZN:00017E01] for example, you'll see the Min/Max Level of this zone. Certains zones like Concord have Min Level = 1 so Leveled NPCs are have a low level. (They exact level depends on other factors too). Saves games store Cell detach times and unless it is triggered by a Papyrus script or ResetInterior or an engine bug, Cell reset is based on a hardcoded timer controlled by two Game Settings: iHoursToRespawnCell and iHoursToRespawnCellCleared (depending on whether the Location the Cell belongs to is flagged as Cleared). MrUncreated
That's actually very helpful, and I appreciate it. I have never used FO4Edit, but after I am finished with my current play through I'm going to use that and the creation kit to make a list of encounter zones and their min and max levels, document it and post it somewhere. I mean it's 2024, it's about time this info is available to the laymen
Karna5
On a somewhat related note, the vanilla game stops getting harder at around 50th level, so when you hit 150 or 200 level you're pretty much immortal to everything, even naked. I've been using the High Level Perks mod for a few thousand hours, and it does a great job of scaling difficulty up to nearly 200, but even that eventually wasn't enough for me. So I modded my game with FO4Edit so that inbound damage to me is 10x overall (and 20x vs headshots against me). In addition, I made console commands to lower my max health by 500 and by 1000 as needed. And I don't wear armor. This makes the game far more fun and intense for me, something which is welcome after 10k in-game hours. In short, though, the game doesn't by default get harder for you after 50th level. You need to take steps to keep the difficulty a challenge.
