anjenthedog
So... some post or YT entry or mod listing triggered the thought I've want to express pretty much since opening the game for the first time...is the closeup view when you open a map (afaik default is "l" key to toggle wide and closeup) intentionally so unclear as to be almost functionally useless? Not so much outdoors, but in caves and ruins, the view is barely equivalent with a toddlers' crayon drawing... nay, not "drawing", scribbling

Lol, I can so relate!! Even with the quality world map mod I use the zoom is no more than vanilla. I got a quality world map I can't zoom enough to utilize the detail. I tried it a few years ago and then been out of the scene. Upon returning I wanted the map mod again but still no fix for the zoom. It's been about 4 years so I am shocked. Actually, with all my searching your post is the first I seen even mentioning it. Thought it was just me. Hmm, now you got me pondering it. I'm still cleaning the cobwebs out from my last and first mod learning, but I bet it is just a setting we can change in xedit. I know there is a legend somewhere, I believe it was on Beth, that shows exactly what all those abbrevaitions, etc shown in xedit for the game mean and do. I been meaning to look it up, but been hoping my go at modding a large LO this time wouldn't require that level of understanding. But, I'd bet that, most likely, is all it is, a setting that controls the amount of zoom on the object. I'm sure if set to too high a value it would most likely distort, but we might get some more out of it for an easy setting change in xedit. If someone knows where that definition page is, please share a link. I'll look it over and see if I find something. Some other user here on nexus gave me the link years ago or I would have never found it. Since then, I wiped and reinstalled my OS on this pc. I didn't try it but seems to more than fit the bill of what you seek. I found it reviewing quest mods. I just didn't want to deal with dyndolod and the mod page talks about not looking as good without it. Here is the link https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/56367 I hope it addresses your map needs. I am still interested in editing the zoom setting in exedit for the map if anyone knows how to. Edited February 13, 2024 by Indio21
anjenthedog
Cool mod, but I'm not suggesting the regular view "zoomed in" using the wheel, I mean when you hit the map key, then click another hotkey to show a supposedly very up close, two-color, pointillist view of your surroundings, within ~idk 50 maybe 100 ft (that's ~15-30-ish meters for any unit-challenged world citizens... But yes, the lack of zoom in the godmode view is a bit lacking too.
Indio21
Ah, my mistake. I understand......that I'm not talking about the samething as you, because as a newb the rest went right over my head lol. scorrp10
The "Local map" is just a generated top-down view of the cell, created from the floor textures. Minus anything flagged as 'hide from local map'. There is this: HD Local Map, but it is likely outdated, since it is a .dll
anjenthedog
Thanks for the link Scorrp10. I'm running 1.5.97, and last update for the linked mod is Nov '22, so it seems like a possibility. Will check out later tonight/tomorrow
