Setting up multiple profiles in Vortex.

So the thought struck me to try and setup a different profile and different game and switch between the two. So is this possible , and if so , what do I need to lookout for? I have a summer version and would like to setup a winter version type of game.

Yes its quite easy.

The following will work on Vortex but I am told other mod managers have smilar features.

Go to Vortex

-Make sure you are in the section for the game you want your profile to be in (if u manage more than one game that is, otherwise nvm)

-On the top left of your dashboard you see "profiles" . Click that

-you should see your profile

- Look at the tab that says enable there is a drop down thats part of that

-Drop down that tab to "clone", Click that

- Now you have  a 2nd profile appear.

-It will transfer all your mods enabled and disabled as it was in the original.

- Change the enabled and disabled mods in your new profile to your hearts content for a different playthrough or download new ones into this new profile

- New Mods downloaded while one profile is up will be enabled by default to start in that one profile, but disabled in any other (so if u go back to the other profile and u decide you like a mod downlaoded while playing from another profile be sure to enable)

Now just enable the profile of your liking. and play that profile via F4SE.

I have my standard game completed profile as General of the MM. A recent new start going same direction. Another profile with thuggysmurfs mods like depravity ( which isnt really depraved), Another playthrough with the Enclave (enclave faction is a mod. actual there are several mods that let u play as enclave) . Another profile as a pimp (with Loverslab mods) wearing the Silver Shroud costume which gave me that idea 😄

I may start one as BoS soon just to mix it up. And all is neatly seperated by the profiles and supported by different mods.

etc etc etc

EDITED for grammer, typos and clarity.

I'm not a real vortex user, I much prefer MO2 and this is a main reason.  Because MO 2 doesn't install into the game directory, I can have multiple  portable installs of MO2.  Not just multiple profiles, but multiple installs with multiple profiles on each.  What this means is I can have varied and different modlists that aren't cross contaminated for the same game.  It means that if I don't want to use a mod on one particular mod list it isn't there.  It's not polluting my modlist at all.  That is true for potentially all the mods.  It allows you to have radically different load orders and mod lists without having to constantly sort through mods you are not using.   It also makes it very easy to find and modify your modlist by dedicating profiles to a build, rather then having a long list of profiles seperated by __________.

As an example, I have 4-6 totally seperate installs for Skyrim SE, 4 different modlists and installs for FO4 etc.

This isn't the only reason I prefer MO2, but it is an important factor.  I'm sure Vortex has it's own advantages, and there are people who switch from MO2 to vortex, so clearly it has it's own strengths.

You sir , are a godsent. 🙂

Thank you very much , gonna get busy with this right away. Much obliged.

Thank you for the kind words.

I went back and edited my post mostly for typos and clarity.

Feel free to ask any other question you may have, I have about 3500 hrs in the game , nearly all of it modded (but my answers will scrupously avoid spoilers)

Thanks to both of you. I havent gotten around to MO2 , so far its only been via NMM and Vortex. So Im gonna try the cloning thing in Vortex and see how that pans out. But this is great as Fallout 4 is really the only game I play to any extent.

Thanks again guys.

Vortex is basically made by the same person that originally made Mod Organizer.

You'd never know it though when moving from MO2 to Vortex.

I'm an old foagie, I prefer MO2.   If it's not broke, don't fix it.    MO was never broke.

PS: This is a great way to test out new mods too if they are compatible.

For example you can clone your profile then copy paste your last couple games from your current profile (be sure to include the f4se file too).

Then add that mod, say a new skin for female faces and then open up the game in your new profile to see how it has affected everyone.

If its an improvement, great.

if it turns all your girls into monsters then there is no harm done because your original savefile is unaffected as the mod acts only on the profile it is enabled in.
