princecold
When should I worry about when my current save is getting too large or might soon become a problem? I've looked around online, found bits and pieces from a few years ago and still can't find a clear answer.Currently I'm only 16 hours in with a 10mb save which seems pretty bad from what I read. :pinch: I am tho running a heavily modded game with about 30+ mods. Anyways when should I worry about the size of my save or when it is considered bloated in your opinion? Also do you have any solutions to fixing this? I mean I've already found a few the skyrim save cleaner and using SKSE invalidregistration cleaner, but besides those anything else?
RatcatcherOfKvatch
When the loading screen lasts long enough to bounce during zone transitions things are getting messy. (The loading screen shows a 3D image that slowly moves toward you. If the load takes long enough it will "bounce" and start receding. This is your clue that things are starting to go haywire: unless your machine is chugging on some other task loading is taking way too long.) Shadeybladey
Currently I'm only 16 hours in with a 10mb save which seems pretty bad from what I read. :pinch: I am tho running a heavily modded game with about 30+ mods. I mean I've already found a few the skyrim save cleaner and using SKSE invalidregistration cleaner, but besides those anything else? Do not use a save cleaner. Most of the well-known experts and qualified programmers in the modding community advise strongly against it as no one actually knows the structure of a save file. 10 MB after 16 hours might seem a little on the large size, but it also depends on the level of your character and what you have been doing. If you have been charging around slaying and looting everything, then you may have a lot of cells still waiting to respawn. You know you have real problems when you have saved game file sizes of 25 to 35 MB or more. That would usually indicate save bloat from redundant scripts. There is no reliable method for salvaging a save by that point. You could try this proceedure, but it is not guaranteed. I have a 450 hour, level 65 character with a save of 12.5 MB, and a level 28 character with about 70 hours with a save of 18.5 MB. I suspect that one has a broken script in it, but she was also created with all the DLC and has been to Solstheim. By the way, 30 mods is not "heavily modded". The level 65 character had 30 mods for most of her career, and no DLC, but now she and the others have about 180 mods, plus all the DLC. Although she has not yet done any of the DLC content. It will be interesting to see how much her save file size increases when she does. ~
