sattyre
Steam loads to ?:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 GOG will load to where ever you decide. For me its: ?:\Games\Fallout 4 I don't find it confusing at all as a MO2 user. as far as purging goes, go into your main vortex install directory and simply delete all the mods inside. Then use the vortex purge and it should clear out left overs. That is how I would do it, but I also really don't know enough about vortex to say its a perfectly safe way to do it. so take what you want and leave the rest. 363rdChemicalCompany
Well I installed FO4 from Steam. its at its default steamlocation. I changed the pathing for Vortex to read the mods and the mods are deployed into the game folders (look the same as my GOG files actually) Funny thing is the game opens in tiny mode in left top window. I went to launch options in steam and changed resolution but to no avail. I fixed this issue beofre 18 months ago when I first started but tis late I had a long day and am running out of juice. sattyre
use bethini to reset and tweek the ini files. That should not only fix the screen size, but also set up your ini's to run the game better. make sure you set it to borderless and fullscreen
LarannKiar
Back up your Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini and Fallout4Custom.ini and remove the original ones from ..\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 then open the Fallout4Launcher.exe. The game should create Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini with some the vanilla settings. (All vanilla values are defined in the game's EXE). I think it will also try to set your settings based on your GPU but I'm not sure if the Launcher recognizes a newer card. Use the Launcher to change the settings then, if you'd like to, copy over the INI settings you want to keep from the backups to the newly created ones. Some notes: - it's not recommended to copy all at once in case something goes wrong as that makes debugging more difficult - when a game crashes it's always better to try to get it working in vanilla environment first, then you can tweak the settings / add mods however you like - I don't think you really "need" to tweak the INIs on that laptop, it should be able to handle the game even on Supra et Ultra settings.. (for beyond Ultra graphics, you can use this guide)
363rdChemicalCompany
All, Thanks for the help. Am at airport now so I will do scant trouble shooting. Luckily the size/resolution issue fixed itself when I created a new profile acting on my steam files. Even though the pre exisintg profiels i had made with gog would boot up with steam files the resolution settings did not transfer. In any event so thats good. BUT.. I just tested to see if all my mods "take" on here I tested this by spanwing a power armor straight out of the vault and it did NOT have the damage thresholds assigned to each piece. I checked the associated .esp and it IS active ( as we all know when cloning profiels they dont all activate properly at toimes) This means Impervious Armor as a minimum is not working which leads me to conclude I will likely have issues with the other mods that failed to work properly as well so we are likely looking at an issue with the installe of some of these mods. As its hard for me to tell which ares are affected ( as some are not obvious) once i get to good internet I will tear down all mods and reinstall from NEXUS. Ironically my AAF and LL mods all seem to work fine and those are often among the most finicky. PS: LarrannKiar, Vanilla works fine, the issue is some portion of the mods dont
sattyre
That sounds more like a potential conflict error due to load order issues.

Another airport another log in Sattyre I have not yet had a Change to test your mechanist file yet as I was just waiting to cross Levl 14 (which I had cheat filed my way to) when I had to pack up last night. Since impervious power Armor did ont take i must suspect I will have smilalr issues notice here running from the Steam files and perhaps some mods not working I have as yet to discover. For example I did not notice DLC timing not working until I went abiove Level 15. I can fix load order if the files are next to each other on my screen (assuming I have a way to find out what the order is supposed to be which I dont think I do) but multiple mods many of which I dont even know they are "off" I dont think I can realistically do. Do you think the unusual way I loaded my mods might have contributed? I saved the .rar and .zip files from manual Nexus downloadsonto my desktop, onto a thumbdrive while I still had fast internet at my house, then used that thumbdrive to transfer these files onto my laptop and then installed those via Vortex "Install form file" tab. I hope my hotel tomorrow will have good internet. then I will delete all mods and start from the beginning. Otherwise I will keep playing as is in this country, since it is playable. PS: as you suggested I am running both Steam and GOG game files installed now and switch via pathing from Vortex. PS2: Does anyone think the "purge tab" in Vortext and then subsequent reactivation might fix a global load order issue?

You are, I believe, having load order issues. I would suggest using either the built in LOOT or an external LOOT, though I would assume you have already done that. But I suggest running it again and read, understand, and accept any prompts as required. Your issues really sound like load order conflicts, the loadorder.txt and plugins.txt you uploaded also suggest load order issues. That suggests to me, that either, your vortex install is flawed, your understanding of how to use LOOT is flawed, or a setting in vortex isn't correct and is creating the situation. Since I can't look over your shoulder and I don't have a great understanding of vortex, I can't say for sure which one of those three possibilities it is.

I made some noob mistakes with LOOT (like not checking the obvious on a Vortex reinstall), as you kept bumping my nose onto the correct answer It is now fixed. I will leave this thread up so others may benefit from the sage advise given by some of our powerusers on here. Also let this be a good lesson to others, to not to try to trouble shoot when stressed and in a hurry.
