The reason I uninstalled SSE Engine Fixes in the first place was because my game was crashing right after the Bethesda logo, even with the modified TOML file. I took a look at that file again, and the SaveAddedSoundCategories setting was set to true out of the box for some reason, setting it to false solved the crashing, and having Engine Fixes installed also fixes the crash log being generated upon quitting to desktop.
