Load order ^

PC settings:

6750 XT AMD

Ryzen 5 5600

32 GB RAM. XMP profile enabled

Game is on SSD.

Game is smooth as butter, but every once in a while, it freezes for second or two and returns back to normal.  Mods were installed using 'midnight ride' guide while I also added couple mods myself. Not sure if they could be an issue.

Those freezes you describe might just be the engine loading loose file textures when you cross cell boundaries. If you're getting those freezes while you travel, it's normal and not the fault of any mods.

Where and when does it happen? In Boston, Concord or nearby a settlement? Outside or during combat?

Everywhere. Sanctuary, concord, in roads, I think I only noticed it outside of combat.  EDIT Happens during combat too.

I'm getting them in same areas, like running or walking in concord, sanctuary, etc.

It happens when I'm inside too

My best guess is you might have too many heavy or inefficient scripts in one or more of your mods. You shouldn't be getting lag when indoors or staying within a cell. If you don't have mods with too many scripts or inefficient scripts, there's a problem.

The only time I ever have that kind of performance issue is when either I accidentally have two instances of Fallout 4 running at the same time (possible to do by accident if you use F4SE) or if Windows is installing an update. Any other situations with that kind of lag, assuming your PC is strong enough for your graphical settings, and assuming your hard drive isn't dying, is abnormal. I am unfamiliar with AMD to know whether your PC is strong, but you probably know as you bought it 🙂

Also make sure your SSD on which you have your game has enough free space (ideally at least half the drive free).

p.s. I forgot to mention I also did have that issue when the drive on which my Fallout 4 was installed was in the process of dying, and act which can take days or weeks in some cases as drives can die progressively sectors at a time until they stop working.

I wonder which of these mods could be an issue then.   Might try disabling 'you and what army' because it's the one that I seen few people have issues with.

My GPU is in-between 3060 TI and 4070, should be good enough for Fallout 4 on 1080p. Since I'm not having similar issues with other games, mods are most likely explanation, now only to find out which one.

PC is already in SSD, has enough space.

That sounds like a very good place to start. I haven't tried that mod, but your process of elimination is good.

I just remembered another example of problems I had several months ago and will list it not because it's a problem now but is the kind of sneaky problem that can infiltrate your game. There's a very useful and normally good mod called SupF4SE. It's used by other mods which I like very much and consider must-have in my permanent load order.

However, some months back, it made an undisclosed change in which it resorted all items in the game on the fly. I used to always update SupF4SE every time a patch came out, and I didn't keep back up copies of previous versions. Unknowingly, this mod killed performance and made the "help [name of item] 4 [type of item]" console command stop working. I spent days or weeks trying to solve it not knowing this mod had done this to me. Then one day the mod reverted to before the change, and in that change log admitted what they had done which they were undoing, and my game got fixed.

Usually the symptoms you describe, when you know your hardware is strong enough (which you know it is), are caused by too many scripts or inefficient scripts.

But it can also be caused by mods which clobber the ability of the game engine to search or sort properly.

Once you get your game stable and the way you like it, I suggest that from that moment forward only install one mod (or set of interrelated mods) at a time and test them in game before installing anything else.

The hardest challenge is getting modded Fallout 4 the way you like it. After you achieve that, it's a careful balancing act from then on maintaining your stability by being careful what you add or change.

Yeah, in moments like these I wish I would get a problem like mods/scripts causing a crash instead of this, in which case I could at least use a lot more debugging mods to find out what's the issue is.

Now with issue like these, where the freezes couldn't be more random, it will take me a lot more time to do it. I downloaded some vanilla save, and will start LOADING in the mods that I think might be potentially causing issue. I've a feeling that this way is going to be a lot more simpler than removing mod one by one.  Wish me luck XD

You can try deactivating all of your mods first to verify it's mod related.

I did. Vanilla seems to be fine.

This is video of how it looks:

SKK script counter log at one of moments when drops occured:

r/FalloutMods - [fo4] FPS drops / freezes

FPS Monitor:

r/FalloutMods - [fo4] FPS drops / freezes

r/FalloutMods - [fo4] FPS drops / freezes

Yesterday was fun, spent couple hours enabling/disabling and running around the map.

Happened multiple times where I thought I found culprit, but nop, that wasn't it. Was quite annoying actually 😄
