i just got a new pc and reinstalled fallout 4 to mod it again. i installed all of the previous mods that i had and then launched the game, it showed two seconds of the game opening cutscene and then closed. this happens every time i open the game with mods. ive tried everything from downgrading to reinstalling to reinstalling every mod one by one.

You have to be more methodical than that.

First uninstall and delete the entire fallout 4 folder in steam and the save game folder in documents

I'll assume Steam is NOT installed in Program files.

Install the game(download it, do not restore from a backup and get rid of any you might have) and don't forget to setup the INI for mods. Test. Does the updated vanilla game run?

Next roll back using a different method than previously tried. If you used the mod do it manually or vice versa. Test. Does the Rolled back vanilla game run? Yes? Backup the game folder now.

If you use F4SE, install using opposite of previous method, if you installed with Vortex then install manually this time. Test. Does the vanilla game run with F4SE?

If you have made it to this point then there is no reason for mods installed "one at a time"{pressing x to doubt} to cause a crash on startup unless you are not reading the descriptions of the mods you are downloading. You may have rebuilt a mod set you once had but it is very likely that at least some of them are a different version.

Yup!
Methodical is the key.

As stated elsewhere, I fired up/reinstalled FO4 afte a long hiatus (old-gen).
Installed all my 250-300ish mods (including the RedRocketTV ones, now removed from Nexus...but I kept them, YAY).

No crash, no nonsense, game is rock solid, can play for hours....excpet for the cases where I am stupid and get killed, and have to roll back to an "old" save.
